
HVAC Automation Engineer

We’re seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer to manage and optimize HVAC and utility systems within a pharmaceutical facility. You’ll lead system design, commissioning, and maintenance efforts, ensuring compliance and operational readiness. This role offers the opportunity to drive continuous improvements and contribute to local capital investments.
Responsibilities;
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for HVAC systems (GMP and non-GMP) and associated ancillary systems within the facility.
- Develop, execute, and document IQ/OQ/PQ (Installation, Operational, and Performance Qualification) protocols for HVAC, environmental monitoring, and BMS systems.
- Support Computer System Validation efforts to ensure the BMS meets regulatory requirements
- Implement and manage change control processes for modifications to HVAC/BMS automation systems.
- Develop and modify PLC systems for HVAC automation.
- Optimize HVAC system performance for energy efficiency, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve automation-related issues in manufacturing cleanrooms and laboratories.
- Lead or participate in the design, verification, commissioning, and qualification of HVAC systems during project phases, ensuring systems are operational and meet compliance requirements.
- Ensure HVAC systems are maintained in a state of compliance and operational readiness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and local capital investment.
- Provide technical expertise on system applications in pharmaceutical manufacturing and monitor system performance.
- Lead risk assessment exercises and participate in teams or committees to support departmental goals.
- Develop necessary documentation (URs, specifications, test cases) to ensure systems are properly installed and remain in a controlled state.
- Monitor utility systems and maintain KPIs to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Provide written instructions for proper equipment operation and maintenance to ensure systems stay within controlled parameters.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for equipment failures, applying root cause analysis (RCA) techniques and guiding operations personnel.
- Provide customer consultation and notifications regarding HVAC system issues.
- Ensure tracking systems are updated and tasks are completed by required deadlines.
- Provide technical assistance to maintenance and operations teams as necessary.
- Support internal and external inspections and investigations, including Quality and HSE.
- Maintain communication with appropriate site customer groups and assist with inspections.
- Utilize Trackwise and CAPA systems for issue tracking and resolution.
Qualifications;
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering) or equivalent work experience.
- Technical experience with HVAC systems and utilities.
- Proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and collaboration platforms.
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).
- Knowledge of cGMP standards.
- Deep understanding of engineering principles, functional standards, and concepts.
- Ability to train and mentor others with a strong technical aptitude.
- Previous experience with equipment commissioning and startup.
- Engineering experience in the pharmaceutical industry and manufacturing plant utilities.
- Project management experience.
- Familiarity with maintenance and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Experience with deviation and change management systems, including Trackwise.
