Battery Cell Test Technician
Key Responsibilities
- Perform testing and benchmarking of cells sourced from multiple suppliers and chemistries.
- Support evaluation of different form factors, including pouch, prismatic, blade, and cylindrical cells.
- Execute test protocols for advanced concepts such as solid-state cells and extremely fast-charging (XFC) cells.
- Assist in the exploration of emerging cell technologies, including low-cost sodium-ion and region-specific innovations (U.S.-based, EU-based, etc.).
- Prepare cells for testing, including assembly, disassembly, and fixture setup.
- Operate lab equipment such as cyclers, impedance testers, and environmental chambers.
- Collect and document test results with high accuracy to support engineering analysis and benchmarking reports.
- Maintain lab organization, safety compliance, and accurate test records.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a lab, test, or manufacturing environment involving batteries, electronics, or related technologies.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion cell handling, testing, and safety protocols.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with ability to follow detailed procedures.
- Proficiency in using test equipment and basic data recording tools.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with advanced cell types (solid state, XFC, sodium-ion).
- Understanding of electrochemistry and cell degradation mechanisms.
- Background in benchmarking, supplier evaluation, or prototype validation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment with evolving priorities.
Salary: $65,000-90,000
The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
