
APQP Quality Specialist (aerospace)

About the Role:
The APQP Specialist is responsible for deploying and managing Advanced Product Quality Planning activities to ensure new product introductions, engineering changes, and supplier components meet aerospace quality, reliability, and compliance requirements. This role supports cross-functional teams through the product development lifecycle, from concept through production handover, in line with aerospace standards such as AS9145.
Key Responsibilities
- APQP Project Management
Lead and facilitate APQP activities across internal and supplier teams for new product introductions (NPI), design changes, and major manufacturing process updates. - Plan Deployment
Develop and maintain APQP plans including key milestones, gate reviews, and required deliverables in alignment with AS9145 and customer-specific requirements. - PPAP Submission
Support or lead the preparation and submission of PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation packages, ensuring completeness and compliance. - Risk Management
Conduct PFMEAs, DFMEAs, and support control plan development to identify and mitigate potential failure modes in design and production processes. - Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, programme management, and supply chain teams to ensure product quality is built into the design and maintained throughout the lifecycle. - Supplier Support
Guide and assess suppliers on APQP requirements, PPAP expectations, and readiness reviews to drive right-first-time quality performance. - Metrics and Reporting
Track and report progress against APQP deliverables and maturity levels. Present findings to internal stakeholders and customers during programme reviews. - Continuous Improvement
Promote lessons learned, feedback loops, and best practice integration into future APQP cycles. Support capability development and training on APQP principles. - Customer focal
Must act as customer focal to chair the review meeting and provide key updates to the customer. Must highlight the risks and issues to customers in a timely manner and identify solutions.
- Technical mentoring
Guide and mentor a team of engineers working on APQP/PPAP and ensure project adheres to customer KPIs
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical engineering
- 8-12 years of related engineering experience
- Proven experience working with APQP and PPAP processes, ideally in the aerospace sector
- In-depth knowledge of AS9145 and related standards (e.g., AS9100, AS9102)
- Certification in PPAP coordination.
- Experience with FMEA, MSA, Control Plans, and Capability Analysis
- Experience managing suppliers or participating in supplier development activities
- Ability to lead and guide a group of manufacturing engineers working on APQP/PPAP
- Software Skills: MS Excel, Word, Net-Inspect, MS Project (Added advantage)
Location: On-site in Indianapolis, IN
Salary Range: $100K-$130K
The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
