
Junior Interior Trim Engineer

Job Description:
- Support the development, testing, and validation of interior trim components, including A-pillar, B-pillar, C-pillar, headliner, instrument panel, door trim, and other hard-trim components.
- Assist with investigating fit, finish, gap, flush, squeak/rattle, and assembly issues identified during vehicle builds, production, and warranty.
- Support root cause analysis using dimensional measurements, tolerance studies, force testing, BOB/WOW studies, and other engineering problem-solving methods.
- Work with manufacturing, quality, DRE, supplier, and metrology teams to identify and resolve interior trim concerns.
- Assist with dimensional inspection and variation analysis using scanning, checking fixtures, SPC data, and basic tolerance analysis.
- Support the design and improvement of trim interfaces, clips, snaps, fasteners, and attachment features to improve fit, assembly, and perceived quality.
- Create and update 3D models, drawings, and basic engineering changes using Siemens NX or similar CAD tools.
- Assist in developing checking fixtures and inspection aids for interior trim components and support their use during production containment.
- Participate in vehicle builds and validation activities to evaluate interior trim fitment, appearance, assembly, and functionality.
- Support supplier and plant investigations, including containment activities, quality alerts, work instructions, and corrective actions.
- Assist with tracking engineering and quality issues through systems such as Global Issue Management (GIM) and ensure timely follow-up and closure.
- Review basic SPC and dimensional data using tools such as Minitab and support tolerance/variation studies.
- Participate in design reviews, build events, and cross-functional meetings to communicate findings and track open issues.
- Support engineering changes, drawing updates, and corrective actions from initial investigation through validation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in automotive engineering, interior trim, vehicle assembly, manufacturing, quality, or a related area.
- Basic understanding of automotive interior trim components and vehicle assembly processes.
- Experience with CAD tools, preferably Siemens NX.
- Understanding of GD&T, dimensional variation, tolerance stack-up, and basic root cause analysis.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a vehicle plant, assembly environment, or test/build facility when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with A/B/C-pillar trim, headliners, door trim, instrument panels, or other interior hard trim.
- Exposure to 3D scanning, checking fixtures, SPC, Minitab, 3DCS, or Monte Carlo analysis.
- Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier experience.
- Familiarity with Teamcenter or other PLM systems.
- Exposure to vehicle build, launch, quality, or warranty investigations.
