What You Will Contribute To Altos
An exciting opportunity is available for a talented Director/Senior Director to join the Institute of Medicine (IoM) Development Sciences team at Altos Labs.
We are seeking highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individuals who are passionate and dedicated to employing their expertise to restore cell health and reverse disease. This position will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the IoM to develop novel therapeutic projects at Altos. The candidate will work in a highly dynamic and cross-functional environment that requires collaboration with the Institutes of Science and Computation (IoS and IoC), and will span multiple therapeutic areas and therapeutic modalities. The successful candidate will have strong scientific training and experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and implement Medicinal Chemistry strategies and build infrastructure to support discovery programs
- Lead and/or represent Medicinal Chemistry in multifunctional discovery and early development project teams.
- Work with scientists at the Institutes of Science (Bay Area, Cambridge, San Diego) to design and synthesize tool molecules to explore biological and molecular mechanisms of action.
- Effective cross-functional collaboration, especially with the IoS and IoC, in vitro/in vivo pharmacology, DMPK and toxicology, in the optimization of drug leads and candidates.
- Recommend, initiate, lead and champion innovations from external, global and local sources to ensure cutting-edge science is applied to project-related issues
- Manage resource allocation, including leveraging CRO partners and internal resources in other Altos Labs groups as needed
- Continuously assess assay capability and capacity needs based on the evolving pipeline at Altos
- Create and foster strong partnerships with groups in the Institutes of Science and Medicine
- Contribute to a team culture that promotes continuous improvement, ownership, professional growth, and inclusion
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry with 10+ years of industry experience in Drug Discovery
- Extensive knowledge of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery approaches (e.g., structure-based design, computational chemistry, multi-parametric optimization of bioactivity/physicochemical/ADME properties)
- Experience working with CROs in outsourcing screening, chemical synthesis, and evaluation of compounds.
- Demonstrated track record of patents and publications in medicinal chemistry
- Demonstrated ability to partner and collaborate effectively with research teams and drug discovery functions.
- Clear and influential communicator: exceptional influencing skills that demonstrate strong thought partnership and create effective relationships with internal and external groups and individuals
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with oligonucleotide chemistry is desirable.
- Project leadership experience is highly desirable
We are open to considering candidates in either our Redwood City or our San Diego location. The full salary ranges by location and level are below.
The salary range for San Francisco Bay Area:
- Director: $278,000 - $377,200
- Senior Director: $316,200 - $427,800
The salary range for San Diego:
- Director: $250,750 - $339,250
- Senior Director: $294,950 - $399,050
