ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an entrepreneurial educator-practitioner who is motivated to develop the next generation of founders, operators, and leaders through building and doing, not just teaching. This role spans two complementary programmes: the BSc (Hons) Entrepreneurial Leadership (BEL), structured around missions grounded in the grand challenges and great opportunities of Africa; and the BSc (Hons) International Business and Trade (IBT), which equips students to navigate cross-border markets, regional trade ecosystems, and global value chains.
Teaching across both programmes at ALCHE is hands-on, experiential, and practice-oriented. BEL students identify opportunities, test ideas, build ventures, and engage directly with real-world constraints and stakeholders. IBT students analyse international market dynamics, develop cross-border strategies, and engage with live trade and business challenges. You will guide both sets of students by drawing on your entrepreneurial and/or industry experience while maintaining rigorous academic standards.
This role extends well beyond classroom delivery. You will contribute to the design and evolution of both the BEL and IBT programmes, mentor students as they develop entrepreneurial judgment, leadership capacity, and international business acumen, and continuously adapt content and pedagogy to reflect emerging market realities, innovation ecosystems, trade developments, and venture-building practices.
The successful candidate will be equally at home in both programme contexts, bringing subject matter expertise and professional experience that spans entrepreneurship, venture building, and international business and trade.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality instruction across modules within the BSc (Hons) Entrepreneurial Leadership programme and the BSc (Hons) International Business and Trade modules, using experiential, project-based, and real-world teaching approaches aligned with programme learning outcomes.
- Facilitate venture- and project-based learning by guiding students through opportunity identification, validation, business model development, and execution, including engagement with customers, partners, and relevant stakeholders across local and international contexts.
- Teach substantively across both programmes, bringing international business and trade perspectives, including cross-border market dynamics, regional integration, and global value chains, into IBT modules, and connecting these themes with entrepreneurial practice within BEL where relevant.
- Design, review, and continuously improve learning materials, assessments, and activities to ensure alignment with academic standards, entrepreneurial practice, and international business relevance.
- Mark and moderate student work accurately and fairly, providing timely, constructive, and actionable feedback to support student development and venture progression.
- Hold regular office hours to provide academic support, coaching, and mentorship to students on coursework, projects, and ventures.
- Contribute to curriculum development and programme enhancement across BEL and IBT, ensuring content remains relevant to evolving entrepreneurial ecosystems, international markets, and labour market needs.
- Collaborate with Programme Managers, faculty across disciplines, and internal and external stakeholders (including entrepreneurs, industry practitioners, and trade-related institutions) to ensure coherence, quality assurance, and effective programme delivery.
- Participate in departmental meetings, assessment boards, and academic governance processes, contributing to student progression and institutional decision-making.
- Support student employability and venture readiness, including portfolio development, investor readiness, and exposure to real-world entrepreneurial and international business contexts.
- Engage in continuous professional development to remain current with developments in entrepreneurship, international business, trade, leadership, and emerging technologies (including AI-enabled venture building).
Essential Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Business, Management, Innovation, International Business, Trade, Economics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in entrepreneurship, venture building, innovation-driven environments, and/or international business, trade, or cross-border market development.
- Strong subject matter expertise in entrepreneurship and/or international business and trade, including areas such as opportunity recognition, business models, market entry, and strategy.
- Ability to teach across foundational and advanced topics in entrepreneurship, leadership, and international business.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver experiential, project-based teaching grounded in real-world challenges and application.
- Experience in supervising or mentoring student projects, ventures, or experiential learning activities.
- A strong student-centred approach, with the ability to engage learners as active participants in their development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions, coach students, and translate complex ideas into practical insights.
- Adaptability and openness to innovative, non-traditional pedagogies, including technology-enabled and AI-supported learning approaches.
- A mentorship-oriented mindset, with a focus on developing students’ entrepreneurial judgment, resilience, and leadership capacity.
- Cultural awareness, empathy, and an appreciation of diverse contexts, aligned with ALCHE’s mission and pan-African learning environment.
Desirable
- Prior teaching, mentoring, or supervision experience in higher education or executive education contexts.
- Direct experience founding, scaling, or working within entrepreneurial ventures.
- Experience in international markets, trade, or cross-border business development.
- Familiarity with African trade frameworks, regional integration, or global value chains.
- Experience with innovation methodologies (e.g. lean startup, design thinking, agile approaches).
- Experience contributing to curriculum design or programme development in entrepreneurship, leadership, or international business.
- Interest in integrating emerging technologies, including AI, into entrepreneurial and international business practice and pedagogy.
- Research experience or willingness to contribute to applied or practice-oriented scholarship in entrepreneurship, leadership, or international business.
- Experience engaging with entrepreneurial or trade ecosystems (e.g. accelerators, incubators, investors, export agencies, or policy environments).
