ABOUT THE ROLE

The Campus Nurse will play a critical role in promoting the health and well-being of ALU students. This role involves managing and providing primary healthcare services and collaborating with the Student Life team to create a healthy and safe campus environment. The Campus Nurse will be a compassionate and knowledgeable healthcare professional dedicated to supporting our diverse student population's physical and mental health needs.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide Primary Healthcare Services:

  • Assess and treat students with various illnesses and injuries, including common colds, flu, minor wounds, and allergies.
  • Administer medications and vaccinations as needed.
  • Provide health education and counseling on topics such as sexual health, nutrition, stress management, and disease prevention.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all student visits.

Manage the Campus Health Office:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the campus wellness office, located within the shared wellness center, ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for students.
  • Maintain an efficient and confidential system for managing student health records and appointments within the shared space.
  • Coordinate with the wellness center staff to ensure smooth collaboration and efficient use of shared resources and facilities.
  • Manage medical supplies and equipment within the designated office space, ensuring adequate stock and proper maintenance.
  • Develop and implement health and safety protocols for the campus community in collaboration with the wellness center staff.
  • Advocate for student needs and perspectives within the shared wellness center environment, ensuring their access to comprehensive care.

Health Promotion and Education:

  • Develop and deliver health promotion programs and workshops on topics relevant to student needs, such as stress management, healthy eating, and disease prevention.
  • Create health education materials and resources for distribution to the student body.
  • Organize health awareness campaigns and events to promote a culture of wellness on campus.

Emergency Response:

  • Respond to medical emergencies on campus, providing first aid and coordinating with emergency medical services as needed.
  • Develop and implement emergency response protocols for various scenarios.
  • Train staff and students on basic first aid and emergency procedures.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with the Student Life team to address student health and well-being concerns.
  • Provide consultation and support to residential life staff on managing student health issues.
  • Work with the counseling team to provide integrated care for students with mental health concerns.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license with a valid practicing certificate.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a registered nurse in a clinical setting, preferably with experience in college health or adolescent health.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing primary healthcare services and managing a health center or clinic.
  • Experience in developing and delivering health education programs.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety regulations.

Functional Skills:

  • Clinical Skills: Proficient in assessing and treating a variety of illnesses and injuries, administering medications, and providing basic life support.
  • Health Education: Ability to develop and deliver effective health education programs and materials.
  • Emergency Response: Skilled in responding to medical emergencies and providing first aid.
  • Health Center Management: Experience in managing medical supplies, equipment, and health records.
  • Knowledge of Public Health: Understanding of public health principles and practices, including disease prevention and health promotion.

Soft Skills:

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with students, actively listen, and provide empathetic care.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Sensitivity to the diverse cultural backgrounds of ALU students and ability to provide culturally competent healthcare services.
  • Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess situations, make sound judgments, and provide appropriate care.
  • Compassion and Empathy: Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and a genuine concern for the well-being of students.
