ABOUT THE ROLE

ALX Africa is seeking a passionate and motivated Entrepreneurship Intern to support our growing community of entrepreneurs. Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, this internship offers an exciting opportunity to assist entrepreneurs with their learning journey with Founder and Freelancer Academy, while contributing to the development of a dynamic and collaborative ecosystem.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with converting accepted applicants to enrolled participants and enrolled participants to paid participants for the Founder Academy (FA) and Freelancer Academy (FLA).
  • Manage group communications with FA and FLA participants across WhatsApp, email, and other channels to ensure smooth programme delivery.
  • Support the grading and evaluation of FA and FLA deliverables, ensuring timely and accurate feedback.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with participants via WhatsApp and calls to track progress and support them towards graduation.
  • Provide logistical and operational support for events, workshops, and webinars connected to the FA, FLA, and Incubator programmes.
  • Support administrative tasks and internal communications related to the Incubator, ensuring participants, mentors, and stakeholders are aligned.
  • Assist in maintaining participant records, tracking milestones, and reporting programme outcomes to the team.
  • Help identify and flag potential challenges or delays with participants, suggesting solutions to keep programmes on track.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with participants, team members, and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organisation and Attention to Detail: Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and ensure that all administrative processes are well-organised and completed on time.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Quick thinker with the ability to identify issues and find practical solutions to support entrepreneurs in their journey.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Comfortable working with diverse teams and willing to contribute to the overall success of the programme.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in using digital tools such as Google Workspace, project management software, and communication platforms like Slack or WhatsApp.
  • Adaptability: Willing to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with a positive attitude toward change.
  • Interest in Entrepreneurship: Genuine interest in entrepreneurship and supporting founders, with a proactive mindset for assisting in their growth.
  • Experience with Startup Ecosystems: Familiarity with the challenges and dynamics of startups and entrepreneurs, especially in early stages.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly in a South African context.
  • Administrative Support: Experience in managing administrative tasks, maintaining records, and supporting the smooth operation of programmes.

Nice-to-have

  • Content Creation: Experience in creating content for social media to engage with audiences and communicate key messages.
  • Social Media Management: Knowledge of managing social media platforms and using analytics tools to track engagement and optimise campaigns.
  • Event Coordination: Experience in coordinating events or activities, with the ability to manage logistics and ensure smooth execution.
  • Project Management: Ability to track participant progress, manage deadlines, and ensure participants complete their tasks in a timely manner.
  • Experience with Data Tracking: Familiarity with tracking systems for reporting progress and identifying areas of improvement (preferred but not required).

Employment Type

This role is a 3 month in-person internship position.

Working Hours

The required work hours are 40hrs per week.

Working Requirements

Due to the considerable amount of virtual working and interaction with colleagues and customers in different physical locations internationally, it is essential that the successful applicant has the drive and ethic to succeed working in small teams physically, but also in larger efforts virtually. Self-drive to communicate constantly using web collaboration and video conferencing is essential. As an employee, you will be encouraged to continually develop your capability to reflect your growth as an individual.
