Role Summary
The Operations Associate will work directly with the Country General Manager and play a central role in driving the execution of key priorities across the organization. Acting as a strategic coordination partner to the GM, the role helps translate leadership priorities into well-organised projects, decisions, and follow-through across teams.
This role functions as a strategic operations and coordination hub, helping translate leadership priorities into action. The Operations Associate will support high-priority projects, manage critical workflows, synthesise information for decision-making, and help ensure that initiatives move forward efficiently across teams.
The role combines elements of operations, project management, executive support, and strategic coordination, providing a front-row seat to the building and scaling of ALX’s presence in Ethiopia.

Specific Responsibilities
Executive and Operational Support
- Serve as a key operational partner to the Country General Manager, helping manage priorities, workflows, and day-to-day coordination across initiatives. ● Support calendar management, meeting preparation, and follow-up on key action items to ensure leadership priorities move forward effectively.
- Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and documents for internal and external meetings with partners, stakeholders, and leadership.
Strategic Project Coordination
- Support the planning and execution of high-priority projects across teams, helping track progress, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure initiatives move forward with speed and clarity.
- Assist in translating strategic goals into operational plans and help monitor execution against timelines and milestones.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and help coordinate solutions across teams
Research and Decision Support
- Conduct research and gather information to support leadership decision-making.
- Synthesise complex information from multiple sources into concise briefs, reports, and presentations.
- Track key initiatives and provide regular updates on progress and outcomes.
Information and Communication Management
- Help manage internal communications and ensure information flows effectively between teams and leadership.
- Maintain organised records of key projects, initiatives, and documentation. ● Draft and edit communications, reports, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with different teams across the organisation to support alignment and collaboration.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure initiatives are well executed and communicated.
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues and partners across functions.
Operational Effectiveness
- Assist in developing and improving operational processes that increase efficiency and clarity across the organisation.
- Support the monitoring of key operational activities and initiatives.
- Provide administrative and operational support where necessary to ensure smooth day-to-day functioning.
Requirements
- Professional Experience: 3–5 years of experience in operations, consulting, strategy, or high-impact coordination roles, with clear evidence of ownership and results. Experience working closely with senior leadership or contributing to high-visibility projects is strongly preferred.
- High-Performance Environment Experience: Experience operating in fast-paced, high-performance environments such as consulting, startups, or similarly rigorous settings, with the ability to manage ambiguity and deliver under pressure.
- Execution and Problem-Solving: Strong ability to translate ambiguous priorities into structured plans and drive execution with clear follow-through. Demonstrated bias toward action and ability to deliver high-quality outputs in fast-changing environments.
- Analytical Thinking and Synthesis: Ability to quickly absorb new information, identify patterns, and synthesise complex inputs into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.
- Project and Stakeholder Management: Strong ability to organise tasks, track progress, coordinate across stakeholders, and ensure timely delivery of key initiatives.
- Communication and Presentation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear documents, presentations, and concise briefs that simplify complex ideas.
- Organizational Excellence: Highly detail-oriented with strong prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- Technical and Systems Thinking: Comfort working with technology and data, with the ability to understand and contribute to systems, tools, or structured workflows. Background in engineering, data, or software-related fields is an advantage.
- Technology and Digital Tools: Strong proficiency with modern digital productivity tools, including platforms such as Google Workspace, and familiarity with tools used for task management and cross-team coordination.
- AI and Automation Fluency: Demonstrated ability to use AI-powered tools to enhance productivity across research, analysis, writing, and workflow management. Experience experimenting with or building simple automations or systems is a strong advantage.
- Professional Discretion: Ability to handle confidential information with maturity, sound judgment, and a high level of professionalism.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data, Computer Science, or other analytically rigorous fields. Candidates from other disciplines are welcome, provided they demonstrate strong analytical ability, structured thinking, and a track record of high performance.
