Role Summary 

As the Marketing Associate, you will play a central role in shaping how ALX shows up across social platforms. You will create content that captures attention, drives engagement, and contributes directly to learner growth. 

This is a creator-led role. You will operate at the intersection of content creation, social media, and growth marketing. You will be expected to generate ideas, produce content at speed, and experiment continuously to identify what resonates with young audiences. You will have the autonomy to test formats, trends, and narratives, using data to refine and scale what works. 

Specific Responsibilities 

Content Creation and Storytelling 

  • Create high-quality, social-first content across platforms, with a strong focus on short-form video (TikTok, Reels). 
  • Attend events, activations, and community moments to capture real-time, authentic content. 
  • Independently shoot, edit, and publish content using mobile and desktop tools.
  • Translate learner stories and ALX experiences into compelling narratives that resonate with young audiences. 
  • Produce content consistently, with the ability to generate, create, and publish multiple pieces of content each week. 

Social Media Growth and Engagement 

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day execution of ALX’s social media presence, contributing to tone, content style, and audience engagement in alignment with the Marketing Manager’s direction. 
  • Execute day-to-day activity across social platforms, ensuring consistency in voice, tone, and quality.
  • Actively engage with the community through comments, messages, and interactive formats (lives, polls, Q&A).
  • Identify and leverage trends, challenges, and formats to increase reach and engagement.
  • Contribute to building a strong, participatory online community. 

Campaign Execution and Experimentation 

  • Execute marketing campaigns across social and digital channels, with a focus on speed, creativity, and relevance to young audiences. 
  • Test different content formats, messaging, and posting strategies to improve performance. 
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to translate strategy into execution.
  • Contribute creative ideas that push the brand forward. 
  • Rapidly test and iterate on content ideas, doubling down on what performs and discontinuing what does not. 

Analytics and Optimization 

  • Drive growth in reach, engagement, and audience size across platforms through consistent content experimentation and optimisation. 
  • Track performance metrics such as reach, engagement, and conversion.
  • Use insights to refine content and improve outcomes. 
  • Produce simple, actionable reports on what is working and what is not.
  • Identify high-performing content patterns and replicate or scale them to drive consistent growth. 

Requirements 

  • Creator Mindset: You are not just familiar with social media, you actively create content and understand what performs because you have done it yourself.
  • Content Creation: Proven ability to create engaging social media content, particularly short-form video. A portfolio or examples of work are required. 
  • Platform Fluency: Deep understanding of platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, including trends, formats, and audience behaviour. 
  • Trend Awareness: Ability to identify and act on emerging trends quickly, translating them into relevant content. 
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Ability to interpret performance metrics (engagement, reach, conversion) and adjust content accordingly.
  • Experimentation: Comfort testing new ideas, formats, and approaches, with a focus on continuous improvement. 
  • Hands-On Execution: Ability to independently create, edit, and publish content with minimal supervision. 
  • Speed and Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and rapid execution is required. 
  • Content Tools: Proficiency in tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe tools, or equivalent mobile editing platforms. 
  • AI Fluency: Comfort using AI tools to support content creation, ideation, and productivity. 
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in content creation, social media marketing, or related work. Strong personal projects or creator experience can substitute for formal roles. 
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in any field is required. Demonstrated experience in content creation, social media marketing, or a strong portfolio of work is more important than field of study. 
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and Amharic, both verbal and written communication. Knowledge of other local languages is a plus. 

Portfolio Requirement: Portfolio Requirement: Applicants must demonstrate an active and consistent presence as a content creator on social media, with a visible track record of regular posting and audience engagement. One-off content samples are insufficient. Please include links to active accounts. Applications without clear evidence of sustained creation and traction will not be considered.

Employment Type
