Position:
Vice President, Medical Affairs Integrated Medical Excellence will manage the Medical Information Team, Scientific Communications, Medical Communications, Medical Insights, Medical training Teams and other shared services function across the full Annexon Portfolio. This role will be responsible for managing and providing oversight for processes and systems that allow the Medical Affairs team to function efficiently and compliantly. The VP Medical Affairs, Integrated Medical Excellence is a critical interface of Medical Affairs and the cross functional teams at Annexon and will support strategic planning and tactical execution support, to further the Medical Affairs mission to maximize patient outcomes by setting and continuously advancing the evidence-based medical standard of care.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide clear directions and leadership to manage and effectively execute deliverables associated with Medical Information, Scientific Communications, Medical Communications, Medical Insights, Medical training and other shared services
- Establish and improve current processes within Medical Affairs (MA) team impacting specific areas of focus for Scientific Communications, Medical Information, Medical Directors group, FMDs, and Medical Operations
- These specific areas of focus include training, CME, ESR/IIT/CoR, implementation of systems to support MAs, congress engagement, development of KOL engagement tools such as slide decks, HCP facing content for FMDs, other medical content development
- Provide strategic oversight for the MA team in the development of both the annual strategic and tactical plan and the annual needs assessment.
- Collaborate with IT and other commercial functions to establish and improve systems related to CME/ESR grants management, KOL contracting, Med info systems and other MA tools
- Manage and provide oversight of key content and operational vendors to ensure MA and Annexon gets maximum financial efficiency
- Partner with finance and HR teams to ensure budget aligns with strategic and tactical plans
- Map MA organization needs and engages appropriate vendors to develop a needs assessment plan on quarterly basis
- Collaborate with Annexon legal and compliance partners to ensure all aspects of Scientific Communications, Medical Communications, Congress Strategy/execution, Medical Information follow Annexon policy and SOPs
- Conduct and communicate regular reporting of medical information, scientific communication, medical communications, congress strategy and overall MA activities and performance as part of overall MA value proposition and dashboard
- Completely familiarize with Medical Information, Scientific Communications and Medical Communications role as a leader and be ready to step in to represent those functions when needed
Education, Experience, and Skills:
Required:
- Scientific, healthcare or medical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO)
- Advanced non-terminal degrees will be considered (MA, MS, NP, PA, RPh)
- 15+ year experience in Pharmaceuticals or biotech in Medical Affairs, Medical Information, Medical or Scientific Communications, Medical Training
- 10+ years’ experience managing complex Medical Affairs teams
- Scientific and patient-centric mindset with a successful track record of delivering results exceeding objectives in support of MA and Annexon strategies
- Strong communication and presentation skills as evidenced by the ability to rapidly analyze complex scientific and medical data and synthesize effective communication to audiences with diverse backgrounds
- Able to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams
- Solid knowledge of the healthcare landscape such as hospital systems, various points of care, and the roles of relevant HCPs in the target TAs
- Solid knowledge of the drug development process, and the role of various internal and external stakeholders in various phases of R&D
- Capable of working independently to prioritize tasks, develop and implement action plans, and make sound, compliant decisions
- Strong understanding of compliance, and the legal and regulatory landscape as they relate to HCP interactions
- Flexible travel based on business needs nationally and internationally
Preferred:
- Experience in medical affairs and/or clinical R&D preferred
- Therapeutic area experience in neurology/neuromuscular and immunology preferred
Salary Range: $311,000 - $346,000
Location: Annexon Biosciences is located in Brisbane, California and preference is given to candidates in the San Fransisco Bay Area. This position may be on-site or remote (within the US).
