Position: The Medical Director for Neuromuscular Therapeutic Areas (TA) will work in collaboration with the VP, Medical Affairs Neuromuscular TA and other Neuromuscular Medical Team members to provide medical leadership and expertise to all Medical Affairs activities and to cross-functional activities within the neuromuscular TA. Specific areas of focus for this position will be creating appropriate content for Medical Affairs Communications for communication with KOLs and HCPs. This role will be a critical interface between Annexon and the healthcare community and will support strategic planning and tactical execution, to further the Medical Affairs mission to maximize patient outcomes
Responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Medical Affairs strategic and tactical plans and activities within the Neuromuscular TA, aligning with cross-functional colleagues in the development of the GBS and future indications.
- Assist in driving the identification, leading, development of productive collaborations with clinical experts, COEs, PAOs, etc.
- Acquire and continuously maintain the highest scientific and medical expertise with all diseases and products within the Neuromuscular TA and be acknowledged internally and externally as an expert contributor and presenter.
- Contribute to the development of and support the execution of high impact medical activities, such as advisory boards, congress symposia, hospital meetings, P*T Committee presentations/meetings, speaker development programs, PBMs/Payer education and appropriate Medical Affairs communications to PAOs.
- Support the development and execution of publication plans, aligned with scientific communications, to ensure timely and impactful data dissemination through manuscripts and strong scientific presence at key congresses.
- Identify and implement appropriate high-impact medical research projects to support the business objectives, including data cuts from pivotal trials, Annexon sponsored and investigator-initiated projects.
- Coordinate the implementation of medical affairs practices, and systematic information gathering to assess new Neuromuscular indications, the treating community, patient pathways, diagnostic practices and management strategies in relevant disease areas of interest.
- Collaborate with clinical development and operations to support clinical study communication to help achieve recruitment and study objectives and to communicate results of Annexon studies.
- Assist in development of Medical Affairs materials to appropriately support future expanded access programs and assist in managing requests for Annexon product supply (e.g. compassionate use requests).
- Actively engage with all relevant cross-functional teams to identify medical affairs communication needs and oversee the development of appropriate materials to meet those needs.
- Support cross-functional teams to ensure operations are patient-focused, including rapidly responding to internal and external requests and providing medical affairs support to all stakeholders.
- Attend appropriate national and international meetings and congresses to gather intelligence, assist in personal education, utilize these opportunities to develop relationships with important customers.
- Conduct and provide medical leadership training programs to FMD team and other functions and prepare staff to handle interactions with KOLs.
- Systematically capture, distil and proactively communicate insights and activities within Annexon to develop appropriate Presentations Slide Decks and other Medical Communications/Information Materials.
- Ensure medical accuracy and alignment to Medical Affairs and Corporate strategy of Medical Affairs activities, including advisory boards and scientific expert meetings, studies, publications, scientific congress activities, medical education, medical information content and medical field programs.
- Ensure all medical affairs activities maintain the highest standards, comply with applicable pharmaceutical regulation, as well as Annexon policies and procedures.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
Required:
- 6+ years' experience in Pharmaceuticals or biotech in Medical Affairs including Medical or Scientific Communications, Medical Director, MSL or Clinical Development.
- Scientific, healthcare or medical degree (MD, DO, PhD, PharmD).
- Ability to develop and maintain a high level of knowledge in complex disease areas, treatments and clinical development plans.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately and effectively evaluate medical/scientific literature and landscape to develop effective medical affairs strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to build productive collaborations with medical experts.
- Able to thrive as part of a team and when working independently.
- Scientific and patient-centric mindset with a successful track record of delivering results exceeding objectives in support of medical affairs and Annexon strategies.
- Strong communication and presentation skills as evidenced by the ability to rapidly analyze complex scientific and medical data and synthesize effective communication to audiences with diverse backgrounds.
- Able to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams.
- Solid knowledge of the healthcare landscape such as hospital systems, various points of care, and the roles of relevant HCPs in the target TAs.
- Solid knowledge of the drug development process, and the role of various internal and external stakeholders in various phases of R&D.
- Capable of working independently to prioritize tasks, develop and implement action plans, and make sound, compliant decisions.
- Strong understanding of compliance, and the legal and regulatory landscape as they relate to HCP interactions.
- Travel based on business needs nationally and internationally up to 60% of time, as needed.
Preferred:
- Experience in developing, communicating and implementing a comprehensive medical affairs plan.
- Experience in medical affairs and/or clinical R&D.
- Therapeutic area experience in neurology/neuromuscular and immunology
Location: Annexon Biosciences is located in Brisbane, California and preference is given to candidates in the San Fransisco Bay Area. This position may be on-site or remote (within the US).
Salary Range: $265,000 to $295,000
