Contract Sr. Animal Husbandry Technician (Must Have Dosing Experience)

Contract Length: 6 Month Rolling Contract
Weekly Hours: Guaranteed 40 hours/week (Thursday-Monday)
Pay: $30-$50/hour
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced animal husbandry technician to join our dynamic team. This candidate will serve a critical role in performing daily animal health observations and maintaining the animal facility, which will include routine cleaning and sanitization, performing cage changes, and receiving animals. This individual will also provide study support and is expected to work Thursday through Monday.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform husbandry activities such as cage changes and health checks
- Maintain clean, orderly, and sanitized workspaces with accurate documentation
- Control supply inventory and restocking
- Support dosing in mouse studies (PO, SC, IP, IV)
- Support scientists with other activities such as tissue collection, blood collection, monitoring, etc
- Interact with pharmacology staff to coordinate study details such as dosing
- Maintain records such as room logs, animal ordering sheets, etc.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field preferred
- 3 or more years related animal care and handling experience required in combination with facility operations knowledge.
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level required with LAT/LATG preferred.
- Skilled in animal handling, dosing (PO/IV/SC/IP) and basic necropsy techniques
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to stand for prolonged time periods and perform repetitive motion tasks.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs and move heavy objects
COMMENTS
- Normally 40 hours per week with a work week of Thursday through Monday. Expected to work independently, during inclement weather events and/or holidays to complete duties. May need to adjust schedule as needed to provide coverage of duties due to absences.
- Must be available to support weekend, holiday, emergency, and after-hour operational responsibilities.
- Considered as essential staff and may be required to work during shut-downs or during emergencies
- Other duties as assigned and required.
