Your Role
Aperia Technologies Inc, a thriving venture funded automotive company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Is undergoing rapid expansion. To support our ongoing product growth both domestically and internationally, we are seeking to enhance our hardware design engineering presence in Michigan, with potential new locations in Ann Arbor and/or Grand Rapids. As a Mechanical Design Engineer joining our tight knit team of engineers, you’ll be working on the design and launch of our next generation products. This is an opportunity to learn automotive-level engineering from a cadre of accomplished design, test, and manufacturing engineers, fabricators, field technicians, and product managers.
Your Responsibilities
- Design and build mechanical assemblies for next-gen products, this includes prototyping, performing simulations and hands-on field work.
- Develop and execute validation tests, analyze data to optimize designs and advise on next steps.
- Perform field visits and audit performance of products in the field to ensure product success.
- Support current products, including investigating product issues, failures and employing root cause analysis where needed.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to gather feedback and data from customers that is crucial to product upgrades and developments.
- Take ownership of assigned projects, managing timelines, budget, and resources effectively to deliver projects on time and within budget constraints.
- Support vendor qualification through testing of products from new vendors.
- Produce and review engineering drawings, send to vendors, work with them to quote new designs and coordinate ordering samples.
- Build and release Engineering Change Orders in Arena PLM and follow Aperia best practices surrounding quality requirements.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree Mechanical Engineering, with 1-2 years’ experience in product development (ideally automotive or other high volume, high reliability industry)
- Mechanical aptitude and fluency in mechanical systems
- Fluency in a CAD program like SolidWorks, or similar
- Fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and it’s Google derivatives (Docs,Sheets, Slides)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated, intensely curious, with the ability to teach yourself new skills
- Desire to work in a collaborative, team focused environment that encourages independent thinking and continuous improvement
- Bonus Points:
- LabVIEW, MATLAB, C++ (or similar microcontroller programming language)
- Experience with GD&T
- Rapid prototyping methodologies like 3D printing, laser cutting, machining
- Mechatronics, robotics, electronics know-how
- Data analysis, simulations, Python or SQL experience

Pay Range: $70,000 - $130,000
*Base salary only. Salary dependent on multiple factors including, but not limited to, experience and location.
