Position Overview

We're seeking a forward-thinking Director of Information Technology (IT) to lead our technology strategy, infrastructure, and operations. This hands-on leader will serve as the organization's trusted technology expert, ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable IT services while driving cybersecurity, operational excellence, and business growth.

Beyond traditional IT leadership, the Director of IT will spearhead the evaluation and implementation of AI and automation solutions that improve efficiency, elevate performance, and position the organization for the future.

Essential Functions

IT Operations & Support

  • Oversee daily IT operations and support across the organization
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and security of systems, networks, hardware, software, and telecommunications
  • Serve as the primary internal contact for technology issues, escalations, and system concerns
  • Coordinate and prioritize IT support requests to ensure timely resolution and exceptional service
  • Monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability
  • Supervise on-site IT staff augmentation resources, including work prioritization, performance management, coordination with outsourced support partners, and alignment with organizational objectives

Vendor Management

  • Manage the Company's outsourced IT service provider(s)
  • Establish and monitor service level expectations and key performance indicators
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Apex and external technology partners
  • Evaluate vendor performance, costs, responsiveness, and overall value
  • Ensure vendors meet cybersecurity, compliance, and operational requirements

IT Strategy & Organizational Development

  • Assess the effectiveness of the current outsourced IT model and recommend future-state IT structure
  • Evaluate support model alternatives, including outsourced, hybrid, and fully in-house IT environments
  • Present recommendations, business cases, staffing plans, and cost-benefit analyses to executive leadership
  • Develop and support technology roadmaps aligned with organizational goals

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy & Innovation

  • Lead the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of AI and automation solutions that enhance efficiency, decision-making, customer service, and business performance
  • Partner with business leaders to identify and prioritize AI opportunities across the organization
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and develop adoption recommendations based on business value, security, implementation requirements, and ROI
  • Establish governance, security, and responsible-use standards for AI technologies
  • Manage AI initiatives from concept through deployment, including vendor management, stakeholder engagement, user training, and performance measurement
  • Advise executive leadership on AI trends, opportunities, risks, and adoption strategies

Project Management

  • Lead and support IT projects from planning through implementation
  • Coordinate technology upgrades, system implementations, infrastructure enhancements, and cybersecurity initiatives
  • Partner with business leaders to identify technology solutions that improve operations and productivity
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, vendor relationships, and stakeholder communications

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Promote cybersecurity best practices throughout the organization
  • Oversee security measures, access controls, system updates, and risk mitigation efforts
  • Partner with internal leaders and external providers to maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Support compliance requirements and technology-related audits

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage IT budgets, forecasts, and capital expenditure requests
  • Maintain documentation for IT systems, policies, procedures, and vendor relationships
  • Research emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve business operations
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience will be considered
  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership, management, or systems administration experience
  • Experience managing third-party IT service providers and vendor relationships
  • Demonstrated success leading technology projects and enterprise IT initiatives
  • Experience evaluating and implementing technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, and IT support models
  • Experience supporting multi-site organizations and geographically dispersed operations preferred

Technical Knowledge

  • Microsoft 365 and related business applications
  • Network administration, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and endpoint management
  • Hardware, software, telecommunications, and infrastructure support
  • ERP systems, business applications, and enterprise technology platforms
  • IT governance, risk management, and disaster recovery planning

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Hybrid position with a primary on-site presence; primarily office-based
  • Occasionally lift and move computers, monitors, and other technology equipment
  • Travel periodically to Apex locations to support technology infrastructure, systems implementations, hardware deployments, cybersecurity initiatives, and end-user support
  • Provide on-site leadership for technology projects and operational support across Company facilities
