About You

As a Senior SR&ED Specialist with 5-7 years of experience, you are passionate about leveraging government incentives to drive technological innovation. You’re detail-oriented and proactive, with an aptitude for identifying and analyzing R&D activities that align with SR&ED tax credit criteria. With strong interpersonal skills, you work seamlessly across teams to gather information, document project activities, and prepare comprehensive SR&ED claims that maximize funding opportunities for AppDirect.

What you’ll do and how you’ll have an impact

  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and finance teams to identify and document eligible SR&ED activities within various projects, ensuring alignment with SR&ED program requirements;
  •  Prepare and submit SR&ED tax credit claims, compiling technical and financial information in a way that maximizes compliance and funding potential;
  • Conduct technical interviews with team leads and project contributors to gather project details and substantiate R&D activities, focusing on technological advancements and experimental processes;
  • Stay updated on changes to SR&ED legislation, ensuring AppDirect remains compliant with all regulatory guidelines and industry best practices;
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, sharing best practices and facilitating knowledge transfer on SR&ED program intricacies;
  • Liaise with external auditors and consultants during claim reviews and audits, defending claims as needed and addressing any queries or requirements;
  • Develop internal documentation and SR&ED process improvements to streamline future claim preparations and ensure consistency and accuracy.

What we’re looking for

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in SR&ED tax credit claims preparation, ideally within a technology or software development environment;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Accounting) or equivalent experience; additional certifications in SR&ED or tax are a plus;
  • Strong knowledge of SR&ED eligibility criteria, Canadian tax laws, and experience working with CRA guidelines and procedures;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with a proven ability to document complex technical information in a clear and compliant manner;
  • Highly organized, with excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
  • Proficiency in financial analysis and ability to understand project costs related to SR&ED claims;
  • Collaborative mindset, with a track record of working cross-functionally to achieve common goals.
