Conceptual Design Engineer
Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. What you’ll do:
- Architect Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) tool
- Champion and maintain a minimum standard across all developers of the MDO tool
- Support conceptual design trade studies for future products, including requirements capture and analyzing multiple configurations
- Present results to Archer leadership and customers
What you need:
- MS, or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field
- MDO experience on aerospace conceptual design projects
- Programming languages (python, Matlab, C++) and experience integrating them across platforms
- Version control, code review process (Git)
- 8+ years of experience with a MS, or 3+ years of experience with a PhD designing aircraft and/or rotorcraft
- Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience with integrating multi-fidelity methods into a single optimization problem
- Good understanding of the fundamental aircraft and rotorcraft performance trades
- Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications:
- Familiar with 14 CFR Part 23 or 27 and their associated means of compliance
- Understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics
- Familiarity with battery energy storage systems, electric and hybrid electric propulsion systems
- eVTOL design experience up through flight testing of full-scale prototypes
- Experience with loads and aeroelastic analysis
- Experience with flight mechanics and aircraft control
- Experience with aircraft operating and production cost modeling
- Experience with distributed tasks orchestration
- Experience with distributed SQL/noSQL databases
- Experience with parametric CAD systems for high-quality surfacing

We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the Company’s business strategy. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $141,120 - $176,400. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
