Job Summary:

Arizona Clinical Trials is searching for qualified candidates for the Manager, Research APPs (Advanced Practice Providers/Clinicians) position. Successful candidates are Nurse Practitioners (NPs) or Physician Assistants/Associates (PAs) who have previous experience in clinical research and/or gastroenterology (GI) and/or hepatology with a high understanding of research protocol. The Research APP Manager plays a crucial role in driving and expanding the organization's ability to provide innovative patient care for those affected by liver disease.

Status: Full-time, Onsite, Exempt, 40 hours
Location: Chandler, AZ (relocation support eligible)
Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 per year; depending on qualifications and skills
Reports to: VP, Clinical Research


Essential job functions/duties

  • Responsible for performing patient evaluations, consults, and review medical records from  standard of care patients being referred to clinical research.
  • Educating patients on therapeutic options through available liver clinical trials or standard of care.
  • Performs specialized procedure(s) as needed and works with MD on patient diagnosis.
  • Counseling patients and their families, as well as collaborating with appropriate physicians to provide other appropriate direct care interventions within the scope of practice for physician's assistants or nurse practitioners.
  • Primary point of contact and assumes responsibilities for managing the care of research patients per clinical protocol and/or ALH procedures.
  • Oversee patient care in clinical trials and perform medical reviews before, during and after participation..
  • Provides care to acute and complex patient populations and utilizes appropriate professional judgment and critical decision making in planning and providing care while adhering to research protocol, Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, and ALH procedures.
  • Work with various research staff members such as clinical research coordinators and research recruiters to complete visits and submit accurate source documentation
  • Completes detailed review of documentation for studies, charting, and proper informed consents.
  • Communicate with research team members regarding studies and fully understand the protocols.

Managerial / Supervisory Duties:

  • Oversee and manage a team of Research Advanced Practice Providers/Clinicians (APPs).
  • Develop and implement research protocols in conjunction with compliance team, ensuring adherence to ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigator and research professionals to design and execute research studies.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret research data and generate reports.
  • Provide guidance and support to APPs in their research activities, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
  • Collaborate with VP Clinical Research to develop and regularly evaluate Research APP metrics. This will include site budget evaluation and forecasting to meet organizational goals.
  • Provide operational guidance to site managers and onsite research APPs as needed.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

  • Previous outpatient hepatology/gastroenterology experience as an NP or a PA highly preferred.
  • Experience in completing Fibroscans for patients preferred
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive. Experience with the practices EMR system (eCW - eClinical Works) preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to identify issues with “quietly unhappy” patients.
  • Refers patients appropriately.
  • Demonstrates awareness of quality-of-care metrics and regularly meets them
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good working relationships with peers, coworkers, and patients.
  • Ability to provide patient care with minimal supervision.
  • Autonomous in call-rotation.
  • Ability to diagnose and make treatment decisions for patients.
  • At least (7) years experience working in a research center, clinic or hospital setting as an NP or PA

Education and/or credentials and trainings required

  • Master’s Degree or Graduate Degree preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program from an accredited institution required
  • Current and active licensure/certification as an Advanced Practice Provider (e.g., Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant/Associate).
  • Proven experience in managing research projects, including study design, data collection, and analysis preferred
  • Proven knowledge of research methodologies, statistical analysis, and clinical research data management preferred.
  • Graduate of a university program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education (ARCE) for the Physician Assistant with certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), license to practice in Arizona
  • Must maintain certifications as required by department or division
  • Completion of GCP and IATA trainings at hire.
