The Role 

The Corporate Loan Officer, Third-Party Originations, is responsible for originating commercial real estate loans primarily through Ascent's third-party broker channel. This role develops and manages relationships with commercial mortgage brokers, debt advisors, and sponsors to source, structure, and close new lending opportunities. Serving as the primary point of contact for broker partners, the Corporate Loan Officer provides responsive deal structuring, clear communication, and reliable execution to establish Ascent as a preferred lending partner. Success in this role requires proactive business development, strong relationship management, and the ability to consistently convert broker referrals into funded loans while achieving production goals. 

The Work 

  • Develop, manage, and expand relationships with commercial mortgage brokers, debt placement firms, referral partners, and sponsors to drive repeat business and new loan opportunities.  
  • Generate new lending opportunities through third-party referral sources and self-sourced business within your professional network.  
  • Prospect and onboard new broker and sponsor relationships through targeted outreach, networking, industry events, and referral development.  
  • Structure and evaluate financing opportunities by reviewing borrower financials, project details, and credit considerations while providing timely feedback and creative lending solutions.  
  • Guide transactions from initial inquiry through closing, serving as the primary point of contact for brokers and borrowers while delivering a seamless customer experience.  
  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers and cross-functional teams, including Credit, Underwriting, Construction, Valuations, and Closing, to efficiently move transactions through approval and funding.  
  • Prepare and present loan opportunities and approval packages for internal review.  
  • Assist, as needed, with portfolio management activities, including renewals, extensions, covenant compliance, borrower performance, and issue resolution.  
  • Utilize CRM and portfolio analytics to manage relationships, monitor production, identify opportunities, and maximize channel performance.  
  • Represent Ascent at industry conferences, broker events, and networking functions to strengthen market presence and referral relationships.  
  • Contribute to portfolio growth, cross-functional initiatives, and other strategic projects as needed. 

Your Skills and Experience.  

  • 5+ years originating and/or brokering commercial real estate, bridge and construction  through third-party broker channels.  
  • Demonstrated success developing and growing relationships, with an established network of brokers and referral partners preferred.  
  • Strong understanding of lending, deal structuring, and commercial real estate credit.  
  • Proven track record of originating and/or brokering loan production while balancing business objectives and credit requirements.  
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship management, and communication skills with the ability to influence brokers, sponsors, and internal stakeholders.  
  • Experience managing sponsor  relationships throughout the loan lifecycle.  
  • Collaborative, proactive, and client-focused, with experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. 

The Pay.  

  • Compensation is commensurate with that of top producers in the construction lending business, and flexible based on the proven ability to produce in our market segment. Our compensation package includes a generous base salary based on successful production experience and a commissions-based bonus plan rewarding top achievers,

  • This role works in office or REMOTE, (New York, Chicago, Los Angeles (in office)
