Our AI platform primarily supports healthcare professionals—like case managers, social workers, and pharmacy administrators—in their work creating, processing, and submitting documentation for tasks such as prior authorization requests, summaries for care transitions, FMLA requests, and more. By the end of 2024, our platform will have been deployed across at least three different workflows.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Software Engineer at Ascertain, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and deploying our AI-driven applications. You will collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that meet our customers' needs. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and have a meaningful impact on healthcare administration.

On our small, yet impactful team, you will build the foundational layers of our products and make crucial decisions that will enable future scalability. Between working on green field products to introducing efficiencies for existing products, you will be a key contributor to the growth of Ascertain.

This is a hybrid role (3 days a week) in our Flatiron, NYC office. 

What You’ll Do In This Role:

  • Design and develop scalable back-end services using Python and FastAPI, utilizing a variety of data storage solutions.
  • Build intuitive front-end applications using TypeScript
  • Implement and optimize model serving and MLOps workflows on Databricks Enterprise.
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.
  • Support infrastructure management using Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define technical requirements and translate them into robust software solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring high-quality code standards.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to fostering a collaborative engineering culture
  • Contribute to improving software development processes and best practices.

You’re A Great Fit For This Role If You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience in full stack development using Python, FastAPI, and TypeScript.
  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL), full-text search engines (Elasticsearch), and caching systems (Redis).
  • Familiarity with container orchestration using Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and Docker.
  • Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with product and design to take products from 0-1. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong user focus and can ask thoughtful questions on behalf of the user.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in healthcare technology or AI-driven applications.
  • Experience with MLOps workflows and can contribute to best practices
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
