Staff Applications Engineer
About This Role:
As a Staff Applications Engineer at Atomic Machines, you’ll be at the heart of our product development and customer engagement. This role operates at the intersection of sales, marketing, design, and test—owning the technical aspects of the sales cycle from discovery through prototyping and into production.
You’ll lead technical engagements with customers from day one, ensuring the successful integration of our products while uncovering new application opportunities. Building evaluation kits and product demos will be critical, and you’ll also guide internal teams—sales, marketing, product, and test engineering—to align on customer needs and technical requirements.
This is a highly cross-functional, hands-on role. Success depends on your ability to translate complex needs into actionable technical plans, build structured application testing and demo systems, and provide the support necessary for customers to succeed with our products.
If you're energized by ambiguity, thrive on building from scratch, and enjoy solving deep technical challenges while working across functions, this role is for you.
This is a full-time, onsite position based in either Emeryville or Santa Clara, CA.
What You’ll Do:
- Act as the engineering lead within the Go-To-Market team, owning technical engagement across discovery, design, prototyping, and production phases.
- Provide technical marketing support for power MEMS products and their applications.
- Develop customer-facing materials tailored to specific applications and use cases.
- Design and deliver product Demos and evaluation kits that are compelling and motivate customers to move forward with designs.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer inquiries, providing practical product-based solutions.
- Help define product positioning and differentiation strategies in competitive markets.
- Collaborate with design and test engineering teams to develop product data for market deployment.
- Lead product demonstrations across verticals, including data centers, industrial systems, and EV platforms.
- Deliver hands-on support for field tests at customer sites and replicate those tests in-house for validation and troubleshooting.
- Act as first-line technical support for customer issues, both remote and on-site, offering rapid and innovative solutions.
- Maintain and operate the sales demo platform to highlight product KPIs and enable technical marketing initiatives.
- Gather and relay customer feedback to Engineering and GTM teams to inform ongoing product improvements.
- Recommend and contribute to product documentation improvements, including datasheets, application notes, and online tools.
- Leverage experience with high-current switching components in systems such as PDUs, circuit breakers, and power distribution units.
- Domestic and international travel required
What You’ll Need:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience with high-current switching components.
- 3+ years experience supporting Hyperscalers.
- A first-principles mindset — you question assumptions, reframe problems from the ground up, and approach challenges with a foundational understanding rather than relying solely on precedent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field.
- Proven success in product marketing and technical support roles with customer-facing responsibilities.
- Ability to translate ambiguous customer input into well-defined technical specs and requirements.
- Familiarity with power industry standards and compliance testing (e.g., IEC, UL, AEC-Q).
- Strong lab skills: setup, debugging, iterative test development.
- Clear and confident communicator, skilled at working across teams and organizational levels.
- Strong capability in preparing and formatting technical documentation, including test reports, specification documents, and data sheets. Skilled at creating clear, well-structured presentations that effectively communicate technical findings and product details to both technical and non-technical audiences.”
- High degree of professionalism and customer service orientation.
- Strong organizational and presentation capabilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience with switch-mode power supplies.
- Advanced degree (PhD or MSEE) in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills
The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.
