Position Purpose
The Financial Aid Officer manages and processes financial aid documentation for students, ensuring compliance with regulations. This role evaluates applications, guides students on financial resources, and facilitates access to funding for their educational goals.
Key Duties
- Apply financial aid regulations, process applications accurately, and maintain up-to-date records.
- Provide exceptional support by explaining financial aid options and guiding students through the application process.
- Collaborate with departments to resolve issues and enhance the student experience, demonstrating strong analytical and organizational skills.
This position ensures the financial aid process effectively supports students in accessing funding, aligning with institutional goals and contributing to organizational success.
Job Responsibilities
- Process financial aid documentation, including VA Education Benefits, Military Tuition Assistance, and scholarships, ensuring students have funds for tuition.
- Monitor FAFSA submissions and ISIR receipts, maintaining accurate records and completing timely verification for selected files.
- Track Master Promissory Notes (MPNs) via COD and conduct entrance and exit loan counseling sessions for students.
- Stay updated on financial aid regulations to ensure compliance, regularly review incomplete student files, and disburse funds only when eligible.
- Monitor student accounts for proper financial aid packaging and oversee cash flow for timely funding disbursement.
- Meet with incoming students to explain available aid options and necessary documentation, providing ongoing support and referring them for academic advising as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Campus Director of Compliance & Administration, Campus Assistant Director, or Campus Executive Director.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, plus financial aid experience.
- College coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Strong computer skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability to quickly learn new financial aid software.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, enabling management of multiple tasks and accurate record-keeping in a fast-paced environment.
- Outgoing personality with strong interpersonal and communication skills, fostering positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Able to thrive in a collaborative team environment, engaging with a diverse college student population and contributing to a supportive campus culture.
- Must not be in default on federal student loans, reflecting a commitment to financial accountability and integrity in managing student aid.
- Strong dedication to providing excellent customer service, ensuring students receive timely and informative support throughout the financial aid process.
- Exhibits a positive, team-oriented attitude by remaining flexible and available to work outside of scheduled hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proprietary school financial aid experience.
Work Schedule
- Monday - Thursday: 8am-7pm, Friday: 8am-5pm some Saturdays 9am-1pm (must be able to work a total of 40 hours within the posted schedule. Saturdays are approximately once a month)
