Position: Applications Engineer Level 3

This is an on-site position in Grand Rapids, MI.

Overview:

The Applications Engineer Level 3 is responsible for configuring manufacturing system proposals and supporting the Axis team through the deployment of awarded solutions. This role requires several years of experience in manufacturing or a related field, with expertise in project budgeting, custom automated equipment, and manufacturing processes. Relevant engineering disciplines include controls, mechanical, industrial, and welding

Success in this role demands strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to analyze abstract challenges to deliver high-value solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and expand customer relationships through value-added manufacturing solutions.
  • Generate concepts, define process steps, and perform budget and cycle time analyses.
  • Identify labor and material needs, risks, and estimate costs and timelines for each project.
  • Source and organize vendor quotes; identify new suppliers and advance process technologies.
  • Translate customer expectations into actionable insights for internal teams.
  • Lead quoting and project-related meetings as needed.
  • Support project kickoff, build, and engineering teams with concept and customer-specific details.
  • Maintain and expand cost feedback libraries to improve future estimates.
  • Travel occasionally to meet customers and support proposal activities with technical and commercial content.
  • Manage relationships and requests professionally.
  • Communicate project developments in real time to company leadership.
  • Contribute to team development and participate in proposal reviews.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related field, or comparable field experience in similar role with exposure to industrial automation systems
  • 3+ years of experience with project management, budgeting, quoting or similar responsibilities within relevant industry.
  • Capable of working independently in a self-directed fashion but as a part of a larger team with common goals
  • Comfortable with speaking technically in front of groups (co-workers & customers)
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel/Word)
  • Familiarity with automated processes and equipment (Assembly, Welding, Adhesive, Machining, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CAD/3D modeling, or viewing software
