Transmission Engineer Co-op

We are seeking a Transmission Engineer Co-op pursuing a PhD in Electrical Power Systems to support special projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with PSSE or Powergem TARA, proficiency in Python scripting, and familiarity with linear sensitivity factors and power flow computation analysis. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge power flow modeling and reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Responsibilities:
- Conduct transmission system analysis using PSSE or Powergem TARA;
- Develop and execute Python scripts to automate and enhance analysis processes;
- Assist in the modeling, simulation, and evaluation of electrical power systems;
- Utilize linear sensitivity factors to analyze and optimize power system performance;
- Perform load flow, transfer and contingency analysis across multiple system operators in the United States;
- Document and present findings, methodologies, and recommendations to internal teams;
- Support ongoing projects and initiatives within the transmission analysis group;
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical Power Systems;
- Hands-on experience with PSSE, TARA or other power flow software;
- Proficient in Python scripting for automation and data analysis;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Experience with linear sensitivity factors and power flow computation analysis.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities;
- Completed coursework in fault tolerant power systems, advanced power flow analysis, and power system transactions;
- Knowledge of power system operations, planning, and reliability standards is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with other power system analysis tools and software.
- Experience with data visualization and interpretation.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in the power industry.
Compensation and Location:
Salary: $40-$45/hr
Location: Remote (USA). The ability to work in the United States is a requirement.
