We are seeking an experienced and highly accomplished Senior Derivatives Trader to join our growing trading organization in New York City. This role will play a critical role in building and scaling BitGo's institutional derivatives trading capabilities and will be responsible for developing and executing sophisticated trading strategies across digital asset markets, managing significant risk exposures, and identifying opportunities to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns.

The ideal candidate will bring 8+ years of professional derivatives trading experience, a proven track record of trading and risk management across complex market environments, and a deep understanding of derivatives markets and market structure. You will serve as a senior member of the trading organization, partnering closely with leadership, sales, risk, product, engineering, operations, and compliance to shape BitGo's trading strategy and capabilities.

What You’ll Do:

Trading & Execution:

  • Lead the execution and management of sophisticated derivatives trading strategies across digital asset markets, including futures, perpetuals, options, and structured products.
  • Identify, evaluate, and capitalize on trading opportunities across global digital asset markets.
  • Manage significant trading positions and exposures while maintaining disciplined adherence to established risk parameters.
  • Develop and implement strategies designed to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns across varying market conditions.
  • Apply deep market experience and judgment to optimize execution, pricing, liquidity, and position management.
  • Serve as a senior trading resource and provide mentorship and guidance to other members of the trading organization.
  • Partner with senior leadership to establish trading priorities, strategies, and objectives as the business scales.

Market Analysis & Strategy:

  • Develop sophisticated views on digital asset markets, derivatives curves, volatility surfaces, funding rates, basis, liquidity, and market structure.
  • Identify and evaluate relative value, arbitrage, basis, volatility, and other complex trading opportunities.
  • Develop and refine trading strategies based on market conditions, quantitative analysis, fundamental research, and market intelligence.
  • Assess macroeconomic, regulatory, competitive, and industry developments and their potential impact on digital asset markets.
  • Help define and evolve BitGo's overall derivatives trading strategy and market approach.
  • Bring institutional market expertise and perspective to the development of new trading products and capabilities.

Risk Management:

  • Own and actively manage trading risk across assigned strategies and portfolios within established risk frameworks.
  • Monitor P&L, position limits, liquidity, counterparty exposure, margin requirements, and other key risk metrics.
  • Make informed, timely decisions around position sizing, hedging, leverage, and risk allocation.
  • Partner with senior risk and leadership teams to establish appropriate risk parameters and controls.
  • Identify emerging market and portfolio risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain a high standard of risk discipline and operational excellence across all trading activities.

Business & Strategic Leadership:

  • Partner with senior leadership to shape the growth and strategic direction of BitGo's derivatives trading business.
  • Provide market expertise and trading insights that influence product, technology, risk, and commercial strategy.
  • Help evaluate new markets, exchanges, counterparties, products, and trading opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of institutional trading infrastructure, processes, and controls.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across institutional trading, liquidity, exchange, and market-making ecosystems.
  • Represent BitGo's trading organization with credibility and professionalism across the broader financial and digital asset markets.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner closely with Sales, Trading, Risk, Operations, Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Legal teams.
  • Translate market and trading requirements into actionable product and technology initiatives.
  • Work with engineering and product teams to improve trading systems, execution capabilities, analytics, and market connectivity.
  • Collaborate with compliance and legal teams to ensure trading strategies and activities operate within applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Help establish best practices and operating standards as BitGo continues to scale its institutional trading business.

What We’re Looking For:

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional derivatives trading experience within a leading bank, hedge fund, proprietary trading firm, market maker, asset manager, or digital asset trading organization.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully trading derivatives and managing risk through multiple market cycles.
  • Deep expertise across derivatives markets, including futures, perpetuals, options, volatility, basis, and structured products.
  • Extensive understanding of market structure, liquidity, pricing, execution, hedging, and risk management.
  • Proven ability to independently develop and execute sophisticated trading strategies.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex market data and translate insights into actionable trading decisions.
  • Deep understanding of digital asset markets, market microstructure, and institutional trading dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience managing significant trading risk and capital.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Nice to Have:

  • 10+ years of derivatives trading experience within a leading financial institution, hedge fund, proprietary trading firm, or market maker.
  • Significant experience trading crypto-native derivatives, including perpetual futures and options.
  • Deep institutional relationships across exchanges, market makers, liquidity providers, hedge funds, and other digital asset participants.
  • Experience building or scaling a derivatives trading desk, trading strategy, or institutional trading business.
  • Experience with market making, arbitrage, basis trading, volatility trading, relative value, or systematic strategies.
  • Strong programming, quantitative modeling, or data analysis skills, particularly Python.
  • Experience with algorithmic trading, automated execution, or electronic market-making infrastructure.
  • Experience evaluating and onboarding new exchanges, counterparties, liquidity providers, or trading venues.
  • Experience working within a regulated financial institution or institutional trading environment.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing junior traders or building high-performing trading teams.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending upon your leveling and location, the compensation for this role averages between $175,000 - $215,000 USD base salary. Equity, an annual performance bonus and the benefits outlined below are also a part of this role's package.
