WHY BOX NEEDS YOU?

You'll be at the heart of how the world accesses its content. The Storage Clients team builds the critical gateway services that power every upload, download, and collaboration at Box, and we need a Senior Software Engineer to help us scale to the next level. Your work will directly enable millions of users to sync files via SFTP, download ZIP archives of their content, collaborate on Microsoft Office documents, and move content through email integrations. This is infrastructure that touches every Box customer, every day, across an exabyte-scale platform spanning in multiple GCP and AWS regions worldwide.

The challenge is real, and so is the opportunity. You'll solve complex distributed systems problems: ensuring data consistency across regions, optimizing global latency and building resilient services using Java, Scala, Kubernetes and more. With new integration patterns emerging, you'll have the autonomy to drive technical direction, mentor engineers, and shape how enterprises move their most critical content. WHAT YOU'LL DO?

• Design, build, and maintain backend services in Java, Scala and PHP that power Box's critical content ingress and egress flows
• Model best practices in crafting systems and code with sound architectures, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Plan and effectively execute on projects and quarterly deliverables
• Measure system performance, identify bottlenecks and optimize accordingly
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups and sprint planning
• Contribute code reviews ensuring quality standards are met consistently
• Participate in the production on-call rotation

WHO YOU ARE?

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of Software Development experience in distributed systems.
• You have experience designing, building, and deploying high quality software.
• You have a passion for building highly available and scalable distributed systems at large scale.
• Strong coder with demonstrated proficiency in one of the backend languages such as Java or Scala.
• You are excited about solving complex technical problems using data-driven solutions.
• You act like an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions.
• You speak English proficiently.

Box lives its values, with community and in-person collaboration being a core part of our culture.
