Bungie Cinematics Director

Hybrid / Bungie-Approved Remote Locations

Bungie is looking for a talented and experienced Cinematics Director to join an established team of developers at our studio. This is an opportunity to work with veteran teams dedicated to continuing the vision and execution of narrative strengths of our franchise project, Destiny 2, and helping to strategize and execute the cinematic vision for our upcoming project, Marathon.  

The Cinematics Director is responsible for overseeing the creation, direction and implementation of all cinematic content within Destiny 2. This includes working to empower a talented team of cinematic artists and animators, balancing strong relationships with external cinematic partner studios, and keeping a consistent open line of communication and collaboration amongst all partnering teams that support the cinematics effort.  The role also partners with the Narrative and Publishing Directors on Marathon to help strategize and execute their cinematic needs.  

Through the collaboration of the Narrative Directors, you will partner with the Cinematic Producer to achieve a high standard of cinematic content captured through performance capture, animation, camerawork, and editing from both the internal cinematic team and external partnerships. In doing so, you will be tasked with ensuring the expected direction, tone, and style meet the qualitative and creative goals set by Leadership, and does so within fixed budget, schedule and scope.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, pitch, and drive the cinematic creative vision as required by the release, communicating that vision horizontally and vertically in partnership with the project leads
  • Responsible for the quality of cinematic content across all partnering disciplines including narrative writing, casting, voice direction, performance capture, animation, editing, cinematography, lighting, VFX, and audio
  • Responsible for partnering with Publishing and project leadership on driving the strategic priorities for cinematic marketing assets
  • Ensure consistency of tone and style is depicted across the entire cinematic experience that matches the vision set by the project leads and franchise leadership
  • Align and unify feedback from stakeholders and translate that into actionable plans for the team
  • Hold regular reviews of the content and provide clear, meaningful feedback to the leads of the cinematic team to help steer the creation of content towards established goals
  • Hold regular meetings with reports to support company People Development and career growth in the efforts to foster team health and accountability
  • Help establish, improve, and drive the pipeline, processes and methods necessary to take a cinematic from script through to final rendered in real-time
  • Direct the movement creation process and final edits of the scenes and cinematics
  • Ensure that the cinematic deliverables are completed in accordance with challenging deadlines and production realities that are in line with shipping game-as-service environment

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Lead or Director experience on AAA titles with strong narrative components
  • Strong leadership skills, production sensibilities and drive for quality
  • Experience with creative direction and team management experience
  • Outstanding communication, diplomacy, and negotiation skills
  • Strong understanding of the fundamental tools of visual storytelling through cinematography, performance, and editing and ability to transpose them to the interactive video game medium
  • Strong technical implementation and proactive problem-solving skills, able to identify creative issues and help to manage and resolve them efficiently
  • Sound artistic judgment and very strong creative sense provided through clear, effective communication skills
  • Familiarity with game engines and game design pipelines

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • Considerable understanding of video games and broad video game culture
  • Experience working with Maya, MotionBuilder, Final Draft, and Autodesk Flow
  • Experience preparing and co-directing performance capture shoots
  • Experience working with outsourcing pipelines and partners
Listed below is this role's base pay range. In other locations that Bungie has approved for remote work, this pay range may be adjusted up to +/- 10% and some roles may be classified as non-exempt (hourly). 

This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Bellevue Pay Range

$194,000 - $223,000 USD
