Director of Replenishment
About the Role
Department: Supply Chain / Operations
Reports to: VP of Supply Chain
Location: Open to remote given the role, or hybrid, with periodic travel to distribution and fulfillment partners
Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt
ButcherBox delivers high-quality, humanely raised meat and seafood directly to members across the country. Behind every box is a complex perishable supply chain that has to keep hundreds of SKUs in stock, in spec, and in the right place — without over-buying inventory that ties up cash or risks spoilage.
The Director of Replenishment owns that balance. You will lead the team and the systems responsible for forecasting demand, planning inventory, and ensuring product availability across our subscription boxes and à la carte market. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who can think strategically about a frozen and perishable supply chain while staying close enough to the numbers to catch a stockout before it happens.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own end-to-end replenishment strategy for all product categories (beef, poultry, pork, seafood, and value-added items), balancing in-stock rates against inventory holding costs and spoilage risk.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of demand planners and replenishment analysts, setting clear goals and building repeatable, scalable processes.
- Develop and continuously improve demand forecasts that account for subscription growth, member churn, seasonality, promotions, and curated box composition.
- Translate forecasts into purchasing and allocation plans across multiple distribution and fulfillment locations, partnering closely with procurement and our supplier and co-manufacturing network.
- Set and manage inventory targets, safety stock levels, and reorder policies appropriate for frozen and perishable goods, including shelf-life and cold-chain constraints.
- Partner with merchandising and marketing to plan inventory for promotions, new product launches, and limited-time offers so supply matches the demand we create.
- Establish KPIs and reporting (fill rate, in-stock rate, weeks of supply, forecast accuracy, sell-through, write-off / spoilage rate) and drive accountability against them.
- Identify and lead improvements to planning systems, tools, and data, partnering with analytics and technology teams to mature our forecasting and replenishment capabilities.
- Build risk and contingency plans for supply disruptions, capacity constraints, and demand spikes.
- Continuously improve workflow process e.g. automation of repetitive tasks.
REQUIREMENTS
- 8+ years of experience in demand planning, inventory management, or replenishment, including 3+ years leading and developing a team.
- Proven track record managing replenishment for a high-SKU-count business, ideally with perishable, frozen, or food products and cold-chain considerations.
- Strong command of forecasting methods, inventory optimization, and the trade-offs between service level, working capital, and waste.
- Experience in a subscription, DTC, e-commerce, or omnichannel environment is a strong plus.
- Fluency with planning and ERP systems and advanced analytical skills (Excel required; SQL, planning software, or BI tools highly valued).
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills — you can align procurement, operations, merchandising, and finance around a shared plan.
- A bias toward action, comfort with ambiguity, and the operational rigor to scale process as the business grows.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, operations, business, engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
Base Salary - $155,000-175,000
