CLIA Lab Summer Intern 2026

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic CLIA Lab interns to join our CLIA laboratory team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge diagnostic company focused on creating life-changing solutions that enable transplant patients to thrive. Interns will work closely with our experienced professionals and contribute to meaningful projects that impact patient care.
At the end of the summer internship, interns will complete a small, guided capstone project aligned with laboratory priorities, such as basic data analysis, workflow improvement, or quality documentation. Interns will summarize their learnings and outcomes and share with the team.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development and validation of new diagnostic assays.
- Collaborate with team members on research and development projects.
- Adhere to all safety and compliance protocols.
- Assist in the pre-analytical phase, including sample receiving, unpackaging, accessioning, labeling, and nucleic acid extraction.
- Observe and support analytical workflows such as PCR, qPCR, and NGS library preparation under supervision.
- Help prepare reagents and maintain laboratory inventory.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance procedures following CLIA guidelines.
- Aid in documentation, data entry, and review of laboratory logs and records.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with lab protocols.
- Complete a final report or presentation summarizing skills learned and contributions to the lab.
- Assist with continuous improvement and data analytics projects.
Qualifications:
- Must be 17 years old or older.
- Demonstrated academic or work experience [biology, biotechnology,] or a related field.
- Basic understanding of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Education:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in biology, biotechnology or related field. (Recent graduates from high school will be considered)

This is the anticipated base salary range for candidates who will work in Brisbane, California. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, the type and length of experience within the job, the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units. CareDx is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
