The App Services Summer Intern will join the Enterprise Applications team to help modernize internal lab systems that support critical healthcare operations. This internship offers hands-on experience working with cloud technologies, Python development, and real-world software systems used in a regulated healthcare environment.

You’ll learn how legacy applications are analyzed and transformed into modern, scalable cloud services. Along the way, you’ll collaborate with experienced engineers, quality teams, and business partners while contributing to meaningful projects that support patient care.

What You’ll Learn & Work On

  • Learn how enterprise applications support lab and healthcare workflows
  • Review and understand existing systems, workflows, and business processes
  • Document how current applications work, including data flows and system behavior
  • Help redesign legacy functionality into modern, cloud-based microservices
  • Develop and configure microservices using Python
  • Deploy services using Azure App Services
  • Write and run unit tests to validate functionality and performance
  • Partner with Software Engineering and QA teams on integration and testing
  • Assist with data mapping, interface documentation, and message transformations
  • Review test results and help troubleshoot defects or data issues
  • Participate in team meetings, stand-ups, and technical discussions
  • Share progress updates and deliver a final project presentation at the end of the internship

Tools & Technologies

  • Languages: Python, Java, SQL
  • Cloud Platform: Microsoft Azure (App Services)
  • Collaboration Tools: Jira, Confluence, Lucidchart

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong interest in healthcare technology, system integration, or interoperability
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks within defined timelines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic proficiency in SQL, scripting, or data analysis tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Software Engineering or a closely related field
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Familiarity with software testing or QA processes
  • Prior experience (academic or internship) with Python-based development

Learning Outcomes

  • Hands-on experience designing and developing microservices
  • Exposure to enterprise-scale healthcare software systems
  • Practical experience working in a collaborative engineering environment
  • Improved technical documentation and communication skills
  • Understanding of the enterprise software development lifecycle

This is the anticipated base salary range in the United States. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, the type and length of experience within the job, the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units. CareDx is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
