Cargomatic is seeking a Planning Specialist to support our dispatch teams across multiple terminals. This role focuses on the behind-the-scenes coordination of drayage operations, ensuring that loads, schedules, and appointment times are efficiently planned at ports and rail yards. The Planning Specialist will not communicate directly with drivers but will play a key role in enabling dispatchers to focus on driver management while maintaining smooth operational flow.

This is a critical role in helping our teams reduce burnout, improve planning accuracy, and increase capacity for growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate logistics appointment scheduling at ports, rails, and customer facilities for drayage loads.

  • Manage load planning 2-3 days in advance to ensure drivers are effectively assigned and itineraries are optimized, minimizing total cost and maximizing asset utilization (drivers, vehicles and equipment) using software
  • Work with dispatchers to align schedules, delivery windows, and customer requirements. Monitor real-time deliveries and problem solves for conflicts (delays, traffic etc…) to maintain smooth operations

  • Monitor appointment systems, port/rail availability, and other scheduling issues and update plans accordingly.

  • Communicate internally with operations, customer service, and support teams to ensure timely execution.

  • Anticipate potential bottlenecks (port congestion, rail delays, driver availability) and adjust plans accordingly.

  • Assist with tracking and reporting metrics around appointments, load completion, cost reduction, and planning efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Transportation experience required.  Drayage or intermodal experience preferred (ports, rails, or containerized freight).

  • Experience with dispatch planning, scheduling, or load coordination is strongly preferred.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a focus on detail.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume environments across multiple time zones.

  • Comfort with transportation management systems (TMS), preferably including Trinium, familiarity with planning & optimization, and trading partner portals.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for internal collaboration.

  • College degree preferred; practical operations experience is required.

The expected salary range for this role is $45,000-70,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
