About Cedar Rapids Prep

Cedar Rapids Prep is a new public charter school opening in August 2025 to serve 300 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in its inaugural year. The school will add an additional grade level each year, building out a full comprehensive middle and high school that offers academic excellence, a wide array of extracurriculars, and hyper-focused college prep experience. As one of our flagship schools for Opportunity Education, Cedar Rapids Prep aims to set a model for schools nationwide.

About the Role: Administrative Assistant

The Administrative Assistant role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of the school. It serves as the primary point of contact with students and staff daily. We seek a proactive individual with excellent organizational skills and a service-oriented approach for this critical position. The ideal candidate should be outgoing, can-do, and willing to see tasks through to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Attendance & Coverage: Ensure accurate daily student attendance by generating reports, contacting parents regarding absences, and promptly updating student records. Also, ensure teacher attendance and plan class coverage through a third-party partner.
  • Entry & Phone Management: Ensure a warm welcome upon entry and ensure safety and security by maintaining awareness of everyone in the building at all times, allowing entry only to students, staff, parents, and scheduled visitors, ensuring all arrivals after school begins to sign in and out correctly, answering phone calls, monitoring students in the lobby, maintaining cleanliness, and accepting and delivering packages.
  • Student Records: Maintain student info confidentiality, manage student records such as cume files, attendance records, etc.
  • Office: Distribute loaner laptops, chargers, and headphones to students while recording their loan and return; communicate repair needs with the School Director and schedule repairs; brainstorm and communicate improvements in school aesthetics and efficiencies; find budget-friendly alternatives for supplies, review and get supply orders approved by the School Director, purchase supplies and save PDF invoices, update and monitor categorized expenses, provide IT support for PowerSchool SIS and support teachers and the Administrative team as needed.
  • Events: Assist in the organization, set-up, and implementation of school events, including up to 6 evening events a year.

Ideal Candidate Skills and Experiences

The ideal candidate will hold a High School Diploma and be knowledgeable in:

  • Canva
  • Google Suite (Docs, Surveys, Slides)
  • Powerschool (SIS platform)
  • Basic IT support skills

Application Process

Please apply online at cedarrapidsprep.org/careers. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with preference given to candidates applying before May 15,  2025. Candidates advancing through the process should expect multiple rounds of interviews with various stakeholders, a potential performance task, reference checks, and a blend of in-person and virtual interviews. The goal is to identify the ideal candidate by May 31, 2025. The intended goal to start this position would be the middle of June.

Compensation

Salary is currently budgeted in a range competitive with local district expectations.  This role is eligible for IPERS (Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System) and a full suite of medical, dental, vision, and other benefits.
