Chainguard Engineering Chief of Staff: The Stage Manager of Chainguard Engineering Success

We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented individual to join our team as the Chief of Staff for the Chainguard Engineering organization. In this critical role, you will serve as the trusted right-hand to our senior engineering leaders, orchestrating their success across various functions.
Our Engineering Chief of Staff reports to the VP of Engineering and serves as a trusted advisor, partner, and implementer of special projects and key tasks. This role is a position of trust and the holder of this role always conducts themselves with the utmost discretion and tact.
You will be responsible for:
- Guiding information flow: Acting as a gatekeeper, ensuring only the most information reaches our engineering leaders and engineers.
- Informing decisions: Data-driven insights and analysis to support sound decision-making across engineering.
- Offering strategic counsel: A trusted advisor and critical thinker and offering candid perspectives to the engineering leadership team.
- Owning our dashboards: Data data data! KPIs, OKRs, queries, analysis – your dashboards show us what “great” looks like, and when we’re off track.
- Operating Rhythms: Keep the organization on time, every time. Work alongside other leaders to keep the engineering organization operating in lockstep with the business. Drive key in-person events that enable our all-remote team to connect in person 2-4 times per year.
- Optimizing operations: Driving efficient processes and workflows that maximize productivity and throughput. Implement the right processes to enable the organization to move fast.
- Priorities, commitments, and status: Translating vision into action across our development cycles, and ensuring accountability in achieving our goals.
- Fostering collaboration: Serving as an integrator, building cohesion across departments, unifying organizational objectives and promoting a strong engineering culture by embodying our core engineering principles
Qualifications:
- Can-do attitude, runs through walls, anticipates and solves problems.
- Experience in engineering leadership, in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, think strategically, and solve complex problems.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Executive presence, as this job interacts extensively with other executives and investors.
- North America-based preferred, with US-based travel approximately 8 times per year (2 company summits, 2 engineering huddles, 4 executive team offsites / board meetings).
