
Controller
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead our finance and accounting operations. This position will play a critical role in overseeing the integrity of financial information, leading a high-performing accounting team, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and external reporting requirements. The Controller will be responsible for the overall management of the accounting function, including the monthly close process, financial reporting, audits, and systems optimization within NetSuite and Shopify. This role requires a proactive leader with strong technical expertise, a deep understanding of GAAP, and experience in inventory-based consumer products businesses. This position reports to our Sr. Director of Accounting.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership & Oversight
- Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, revenue recognition, cost accounting, A/R, and A/P.
- Oversee daily accounting activities within NetSuite to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial transactions.
- Ensure consistent application of GAAP and company accounting policies across all financial activities.
- Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, including internal controls.
Team Management & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including current and future direct reports.
- Assign and review team responsibilities to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across the finance department.
Monthly Close Process
- Lead the monthly and quarterly close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Continuously evaluate and improve the close process to reduce close timelines and increase efficiency.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and analysis for executive leadership.
- Provide actionable insights and financial data to support business decisions and strategic initiatives.
- Ensure reporting is aligned with internal management needs and external compliance requirements.
Audit & Compliance
- Manage external financial audits and ensure timely preparation of audit schedules and documentation.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and ensure audit findings are addressed appropriately.
- Ensure compliance with sales tax reporting requirements and other regulatory obligations.
Process Improvement & Systems Optimization
- Drive automation and process enhancements within NetSuite and Shopify to improve data accuracy and reporting efficiency.
- Collaborate with Sr. Director of Accounting and operational teams to optimize financial systems and workflows.
- Evaluate and implement new tools or technologies that support accounting and financial reporting needs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with leadership across departments (e.g., Operations, Sales, and Supply Chain) to align financial practices with business needs.
- Support the Sr. Director of Accounting and cross functional teams in strategic planning, forecasting, and budgeting efforts with accurate financial insights.
- Act as a business advisor on financial impacts of decisions and initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience (prefer some public accounting experience).
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with NetSuite ERP and Shopify or inventory management systems.
- Experience in consumer products, retail, or inventory-centric industries preferred.
- Proven ability to lead and develop teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to balance hands-on execution with strategic oversight.

Location: Riverton, Utah (Hybrid position averaging 2-3 days per week in office)
