Where you will work: This position offers a hybrid work option up to 50% remote and is based out of the Dodgeville, WI or Lancaster, WI office.
The contributions you will make: This position provides tax preparation, planning and consulting support for clients and the Tax and Accounting team. Collaboratively builds relationships with clients and offers tax and accounting knowledge and services under the direct mentoring of a Senior Tax Consultant.
A typical day:
- Performs tax estimates and prepares income tax returns for clients in a timely manner in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) code requirements and Compeer policies and procedures and researches and presents tax planning opportunities for client portfolios under the guidance of a Senior Tax Consultant.
- Maintains an established portfolio of tax clients.
- Partners with Senior Tax Consultants during transition meetings.
- Serves as a mentor and resource for tax interns during tax season.
- Plans and organizes workload for maximum efficiency and productivity.
- Collects on delinquent client accounts.
- May sign returns if qualified and under management discretion.
- Processes accounting transactions in a timely manner and in accordance with the GAAP and Compeer policies and procedures.
- Provides accurate and timely accounting processing and delivery of financial statements to clients.
- Responsible for less complex accounting accounts, including depreciation, payroll processing, and full-service accounts:
- Inputs client provided accounting data into accounting software.
- Keys, balances, reviews and prints monthly accounting reports.
- Demonstrates to the client the importance and value of accurate and timely financial statements and how they can be used to add value.
- Meets multiple deadlines on accounts including completion of processing accounting files in time for tax planning, W-2 and 1099 preparation and year-end tax preparation.
- Assists Compeer team members and clients with accounting questions
- Actively learns all aspects of tax planning and preparation.
- Seeks out and participates in opportunities for self-development of technical knowledge, business management, tax law, or interpersonal skills.
- Provides answers and expertise to Compeer team members and clients related to tax and accounting.
- Participates in the development and presentation of ongoing educational programs for Compeer team members and clients regarding tax and accounting services.
- Assists Compeer team members on client visits and at community events.
- Develops knowledge in all Compeer products and services.
- Markets and cross-sells all Compeer products and services to existing clients and prospects.
- Develops relationships with Compeer team members in assigned office or territory to facilitate referrals and new business.
The skills and experience we prefer you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Minimum of 1 year of preparing taxes preferred.
- Progressively gains more knowledge of Compeer’s products, services and farm tax principles.
- Knowledge, technical competency and technological effectiveness in tax planning and preparation that meets client’s needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High degree of accuracy and organization.
- Exercises a high level of ethical and professional judgement.
- High level of integrity.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications and tax and accounting software.
- Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
- Analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends in order to meet deadlines and client expectations.
- Some travel required to conduct on-farm services, attend department meetings and continuing education opportunities.
- Works closely with all team members to effectively meet and/or exceed all client needs.
- Ability to grow client portfolio.

The actual title and base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for variable compensation and other benefits.
Base Pay
$56,400 - $80,200 USD
