Construction Safety Specialist
CMI is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Specialist to support safety practices on a large-scale roofing construction project. This role requires hands-on field experience, technical expertise, and the ability to engage with workers, supervisors, and management to promote a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct site safety inspections and recommend corrective actions to maintain compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 regulations.
- Develop and implement fall protection and rescue plans.
- Lead safety initiatives, including pre-task planning, audits, job safety analyses (JSAs), and permit processes.
- Monitor crane and rigging operations to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide guidance on the safe operation of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
- Facilitate site-specific safety orientations, training sessions, and toolbox talks.
- Participate in safety meetings and provide reports to management.
- Train and mentor workers, supervisors, and project teams on best safety practices.
- Assist in identifying and mitigating job site hazards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 5–10 years of construction safety experience, with a strong emphasis on fall protection and rescue planning.
- Expertise in crane and rigging operations and MEWP safety.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 construction safety standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for training, documentation, and reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or safety management software.
Credentials and Education
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required (must have been obtained within the last 5 years).
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (required).
- Fall protection training required
- MEWP Safety Training (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) preferred
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 10+ hours per day on an active construction site.
- Work at heights, including standing on scaffolding and climbing ladders.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted.
- Work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold.
Additional Requirements:
- Onsite presence required: 6 days per week, 10+ hours per day (hours based on project needs).
- Must pass a background check, drug screening, and fit-for-duty physical.
- Contract duration: 6+ months.
- No relocation, travel, or per diem provided – candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance.
