Compliance Management International (CMI) is seeking an experienced Construction & Environmental Safety Specialist / EHS Professional for a full-time, long-term career opportunity in Toms River, NJ.
This is not a temporary or contract position. We’re looking for a hands-on safety professional who wants to build a career with CMI while supporting complex environmental remediation, Superfund, hazardous waste, and construction activities.
The ideal candidate has strong field experience with HAZWOPER, OSHA construction safety, environmental remediation, air monitoring, direct-reading instruments, contractor safety, and high-risk field operations.
IMPORTANT: This is a local position. Travel, per diem, and relocation assistance are not offered. Candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance and be able to commute to Toms River, NJ daily.
What You’ll Do
Provide daily Construction Safety and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) oversight
Support environmental remediation, Superfund/CERCLA, hazardous waste, contaminated-site, and construction operations
Conduct site inspections, safety audits, field observations, and hazard assessments
Review HASPs, JHAs, JSAs, AHAs, Pre-Task Plans, permits, and contractor safety documentation
Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926, and 29 CFR 1910.120 HAZWOPER
Support HAZWOPER operations, site control, exclusion zones, decontamination, PPE, and respiratory protection
Perform air monitoring, atmospheric testing, and exposure monitoring
Operate, bump test, and calibrate PID meters, multi-gas meters, O₂/LEL meters, and other direct-reading instruments
Monitor excavation/trenching, heavy equipment, confined space, fall protection, material handling, and other high-risk work
Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, field coaching, and contractor safety oversight
Support incident investigations, near-miss reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
Maintain accurate EHS documentation, monitoring logs, inspection reports, and safety records
What You’ll Bring
3+ years of Construction Safety, Environmental Safety, EHS, or Environmental Remediation experience
Field experience with Superfund, environmental remediation, hazardous waste, contaminated sites, or similar environmental projects
Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction
Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER and required annual refresher
8-Hour HAZWOPER Supervisor training
Current First Aid / CPR / AED
Hands-on experience operating, bump testing, and calibrating air-monitoring and gas-detection equipment
Working knowledge of OSHA 1910.120 HAZWOPER and OSHA 1926 Construction Standards
Strong hazard recognition, field presence, communication, documentation, coaching, and contractor oversight skills
Ability to work outdoors, wear required PPE and respiratory protection, and work in active construction and environmental remediation environments
Ability to commute to Toms River, NJ daily
Preferred:
Experience with Superfund/CERCLA, contaminated soil, hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, air monitoring, respiratory protection, Level C PPE, decontamination, HASPs, excavation/trenching, heavy equipment, confined space, emergency response, and contractor safety management.
