Construction Safety Specialist
About the Role:
We are seeking a Construction Safety Specialist to support foundational construction activities on a high-profile commercial project. This role will involve hands-on safety oversight across multiple scopes, including rebar, concrete, walls, and waterproofing. The ideal candidate will bring strong field experience and a proactive approach to fostering a safe and compliant work environment in collaboration with both internal teams and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:

Mentor and train staff on safety protocols and best practices

Promote a positive safety culture across all levels of the workforce

Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, orientations, and training sessions

Perform field safety observations and recommend corrective actions
-
Drive key safety programs: pre-task planning, audits, JSAs, and permits
-
Maintain required safety documentation and reports
-
Oversee safety for foundational work and high-risk tasks including crane operations, concrete placement, and formwork

Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure compliance with site-specific safety plans
-
Support safe execution of excavation, temporary supports, and material handling
Requirements & Experience:
-
Minimum 5+ years of direct construction safety oversight
-
Direct experience with:
• Active crane work (RT cranes) with lift director oversight
• Panel installation using rigging and mobile equipment
• Fall protection and elevated work plans
• Scaffold access control and inspections -
Familiarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1926

Experience issuing stop-work authority on high-risk tasks

Ability to coordinate with crane operators, riggers, and subcontractors on lift planning

Strong communication skills to brief crews during critical work phases
Education & Certifications:
-
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (within the last 5 years)

BCSP credentials (STS-C, CHST, or CSP) preferred

Degree in Occupational Health & Safety
-
OSHA 510 or 500 certification preferred
-
First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:
This role requires active oversight of safety on large-scale commercial projects in diverse environments. The position may involve standing, walking, climbing ladders, stooping, entering confined spaces, working on roofs, lifting up to 30 lbs., and navigating rough or uneven terrain for the duration of the shift, excluding reasonable and allowable break times. Work conditions may include extreme temperatures, high winds, heavy rain, or snow.
