Construction Safety Director, Philadelphia, PA
We are seeking a highly skilled health and safety professional to support a large Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) for a wide variety of construction projects that will take place in the city of Philadelphia. This individual will represent the owner and work closely with insurance providers to ensure that all safety protocols are followed and that projects meet OCIP guidelines and health and safety regulations. They will collaborate closely with contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to reduce risk, prevent incidents, and build a strong safety culture at each project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Development: Assist to create, implement, and maintain a comprehensive safety program for OCIP projects and communicate this information during pre-construction meetings.
- Collaboration: Partner with project managers, site supervisors, insurance representatives, and others to promote a proactive safety environment.
- Safety Meetings & Training: Coordinate and lead regular safety meetings with project teams to reinforce safety objectives and conduct safety training for contractors and subcontractors to reinforce safe practices.
- Risk Assessments/Site Inspections: Perform risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend strategies to control or eliminate them. Perform regular safety inspections of sites to identify hazards and work with supervisors to ensure compliance with OCIP standards.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate and thorough safety documentation, including audits, inspection reports, and incident logs.
- Incident Investigation: Assist with investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses, producing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate safety performance and implement improvements to reduce risks and enhance safety standards.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 7–10 years of experience in construction safety management, with at least 3 years in an OCIP environment.
- Experience with heavy/civil construction projects (preferred)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) (preferred)
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification (required)
- First Aid/CPR Certification (preferred)
Skills and Competencies:
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA Construction standards and industry best practices
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to deliver effective safety training and presentations
- Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions and at heights, if needed
