Contract EHS Professional – PSM & Chemical Manufacturing
CMI is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Professional with a strong background in Process Safety Management (PSM) and heavy chemical manufacturing. This is a short-term contract role, ideal for a hands-on safety expert familiar with fast-paced, high-risk industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the site’s PSM expert (OSHA 1910.119), working with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA (RMP), and state/local regulations.
- Lead or support PHAs, MOCs, and PSSRs.
- Review and update EHS policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Investigate safety incidents and track corrective actions.
- Monitor EHS performance metrics and recommend improvements.
- Interface with regulatory agencies during audits or inspections.
- Support environmental compliance (air, water, waste) and industrial hygiene needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of EHS experience in chemical processing or manufacturing (required)
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP
- Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience with ISO 14001/45001, Lean, or Six Sigma is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to walk, stand, and climb stairs/ladders in an industrial plant environment
- Comfortable working in hot, noisy, and potentially hazardous areas (with appropriate PPE)
- Ability to wear respiratory protection and other PPE as needed
- Must be able to perform safety inspections in field and confined space settings
