Health & Safety Specialist | (Pittsburgh, PA Region)
Full-Time | Regional Travel Required
CMI is seeking a motivated and professional Health & Safety Specialist to join our team full-time in the Pittsburgh, PA region. This is a client-facing position focused on delivering impactful safety training, supporting compliance initiatives, and promoting best practices in occupational health and safety. The role includes regional travel, primarily within driving distance, with occasional overnight stays based on project needs.
As part of our consulting team, you will work both independently and collaboratively to support clients with OSHA compliance, training, and hazard mitigation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a variety of engaging safety training programs including but not limited to:
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Fall Protection
- Forklift / Scissor & Aerial Lift
- Emergency Action Plan
- Hazard Communication
- First-Aid / CPR & AED
- Safety Leadership
- Conduct training sessions in person, via webinar, or through Learning Management Systems (LMS); customize content to meet site-specific needs.
- Assist clients in developing, implementing, and maintaining written safety programs such as but not limited to:
- Emergency Action Plans
- Lockout/Tagout
- Hazard Communication
- PPE
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Conduct hazard assessments, safety audits, and site inspections; prepare detailed reports with actionable recommendations.
- Coordinate training schedules and consulting engagements in accordance with project timelines and client expectations.
- Complete administrative tasks such as time tracking, reporting, and documentation in a timely and organized manner.
Experience & Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in the occupational health and safety field, preferably with a focus on training, hazard assessments, and program implementation.
- Experience delivering safety training in both classroom and virtual environments.
- Solid understanding of OSHA regulations and the ability to interpret and apply them in real-world settings.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Client-focused with the ability to build positive working relationships.
Preferred Certifications & Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (preferred).
- Professional credentials such as CSP, ASP, GSP, CHST, or CSHO are a plus.
- OSHA 501 – General Industry Trainer (preferred or willingness to obtain).
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Comfortable conducting training and inspections in various environments.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift materials up to 30 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel throughout the greater Pittsburgh region and additional states, with occasional overnight stays (approx. 30–40% travel).
Additional Responsibilities
- Customize training content to meet industry-specific and client-specific needs.
- Support the development and review of written safety policies and procedures.
- Utilize LMS platforms to administer online training and track completion.
- Stay up to date with OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of training, inspections, and client interactions.
- Represent the company professionally in all client engagements.
