Compliance Management International (CMI), one of the fastest-growing risk management firms in the United States, is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Specialist to support our pharmaceutical construction clients in the Rahway, NJ area.
This is not a temporary project assignment—it's a long-term career opportunity supporting ongoing pharmaceutical construction projects with opportunities for continued growth and advancement.
We're looking for a safety professional with strong leadership skills who can build relationships in the field, influence safe work practices, and lead by example. This position is open to candidates who currently reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Rahway, NJ, or those who are willing to relocate to the area. Travel and per diem are not available for this position.

- Don't have your OSHA 510 yet? Qualified candidates who meet all other requirements must be willing to obtain their OSHA 510 certification within 30 days of hire. CMI will cover the cost of the training.
What You'll Do
As the on-site Construction Safety Specialist, you'll serve as the safety leader supporting General Contractors, subcontractors, and project leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and productive construction sites.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary safety resource for project teams and trade partners.
- Lead by example while fostering a proactive, site-wide safety culture.
- Mentor, coach, and influence field personnel on OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Conduct daily safety inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and field observations.
- Identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution.
- Lead and support Pre-Task Planning (PTPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), permit programs, and incident investigations.
- Facilitate new hire orientations, toolbox talks, and task-specific safety training.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards and client-specific safety requirements.
- Support high-risk work activities, including electrical safety, fall protection, confined space entry, crane operations, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and hot work.
- Prepare and maintain safety reports, inspections, and project documentation.
- Partner with project leadership to continuously improve safety performance across the project.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience supporting active construction projects.
- Previous pharmaceutical construction safety experience is required.
- Current OSHA 510 certification, or the willingness to obtain the certification within 30 days of hire (company-paid), is required.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence field personnel, supervisors, subcontractors, and project management.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards.
- Experience overseeing high-risk construction activities, including electrical safety, fall protection, confined space entry, and crane operations.
- Excellent communication, hazard recognition, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety management systems.
- Ability to work overtime, including Saturdays, as project demands require.
- Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (completed within the past five years).
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- BCSP certifications such as CHST, STS-C, ASP, or CSP.
- OSHA 500, NFPA 70E, or other construction safety certifications.
- Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.
Work Environment
This is a field-based position requiring daily oversight of active construction operations. Responsibilities include standing and walking for extended periods, climbing ladders, working at heights, entering confined spaces, navigating uneven terrain, lifting up to 30 pounds, and working in varying weather conditions.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work flexible schedules, overtime, and Saturdays based on project needs.
- Reliable transportation.
- Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Rahway, NJ or be willing to relocate to the area.
- Travel, relocation assistance, and per diem are not available for this position.
