Job Description

Job Title:        Linux Administrator

Location:        Remote
Supporting:    The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) **Secret Security Clearance**

Overview

CompTech is seeking a Linux Administrator to support the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Enterprise Business (eBusiness) environment. This role is responsible for administering and maintaining Linux-based application servers that support critical Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and business integration services. The Linux Administrator will install, configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize Linux systems while supporting application administration, automation through scripting, and secure, reliable system operations.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Linux administrator with strong troubleshooting skills, experience developing and maintaining BASH shell scripts, and the ability to support enterprise applications in a mission-critical DoD environment.

 

Scope of Work

Key responsibilities include:

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and other Linux-based servers supporting DLA eBusiness applications.
  • Monitor system health, performance, availability, and security to ensure reliable operation of production environments.
  • Perform system patching, upgrades, backups, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot Linux operating system, application, network connectivity, and infrastructure issues.
  • Administer Linux file systems, directories, permissions, and user access controls.
  • Create, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain BASH shell scripts to automate administrative and operational tasks.
  • Configure and maintain Linux configuration files, initialization (.ini) files, and application-specific configuration files.
  • Support enterprise application administration, including learning and administering IBM Transformation Extender (ITX) application server environments.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) processing and translation issues involving MILS, ANSI X12, XML, and related data formats.
  • Support application deployments, upgrades, and production releases.
  • Work closely with application developers, database administrators, and network engineers to resolve production issues.
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and system configurations.
  • Assist in disaster recovery planning, system restoration, and business continuity initiatives.
  • Participate in system monitoring, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous process improvement efforts.
  • Provide technical leadership, knowledge sharing, and documentation support for team members.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of Linux systems administration experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of Linux shell scripting (BASH) experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of enterprise application administration experience.
  • Strong experience using the Linux command line and managing Linux file systems.
  • Experience working with Linux directories, permissions, file management, configuration files, and system utilities.
  • Experience creating, modifying, debugging, and maintaining shell scripts.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving Linux operating systems, applications, and network connectivity.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve production issues in complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a technical team.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience administering IBM Transformation Extender (ITX) application servers.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) processing.
  • Experience working with one or more of the following data formats:
    • MILS
    • ANSI X12
    • XML
  • Experience supporting DoD or Federal Government enterprise environments.
  • Experience with system monitoring, automation, and operational documentation.
  • Previous experience serving as a technical lead or mentoring junior administrators.

Certification & Education Requirements

Required:

  • DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, SSCP, or equivalent) prior to start or as required by the contract.

Preferred:

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Linux+
  • LPIC-1 or LPIC-2

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Four (4) additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for a degree, when applicable.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Secret

Salary:

  • $105,000 - $115,000 plus full benefits, PTO, 401k+
