About CookUnity

Food has lost its soul to modern convenience. And with it, has lost the power to nourish, inspire, and connect us. Unwilling to stop there, CookUnity is expanding beyond delivery to become an ever-innovating marketplace focused on our singular mission: empower Chefs to nourish the world.

If that mission has you hungry in more ways than one, you’ve found the right job posting.

About The Team:

The Data Engineering Team plays a crucial role in CookUnity’s operations and Chef products, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and actionable across the company. Our team builds and maintains highly scalable data pipelines that power financial reporting, operational automation, and customer insights.

The team is responsible for three key areas:

  1. Chef Products & Insights – Empowering the Chef Tech team with data-driven products and analytics to analyze their performance and optimize their operations, improve menu offerings, and enhance their overall experience on the CookUnity platform.
  2. Operational Data & Reporting Pipelines – Enabling internal teams to execute critical workflows autonomously by ensuring real-time, structured, and accessible data.
  3. Scalable & Reliable Data Infrastructure – Designing, implementing, and optimizing batch and streaming pipelines that serve multiple business domains, from marketing and finance to chef operations.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team and help us scale CookUnity’s data infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing and developing data pipelines, integrations, and data models to support our fast-growing business.

This role involves working with SQL, Python, Snowflake, DBT, and Airflow, ensuring high performance and scalability. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering, finance, operations, and marketing to provide data solutions that drive business decisions and automation.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines (batch and real-time) to support operational and analytical use cases.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries and data models for Snowflake, AWS Athena, and PostgreSQL.
  • Take full ownership of Chef Payout calculations, ensuring accuracy and automation in financial reporting.
  • Improve data accessibility by developing interactive reports using Looker, Tableau, or Metabase.
  • Enhance data observability with monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure pipeline reliability.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and analysts to scope data requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
  • Maintain best practices for CI/CD, version control (GitHub), and testing in data engineering workflows.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or Backend Engineer with data expertise.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, capable of writing optimized queries for large-scale analytical and operational databases.
  • Experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and data transformation tools (DBT, Airflow, Prefect).
  • Hands-on experience with Python for data pipeline development.
  • Familiarity with AWS data services (S3, Athena, Lambda, Glue, Kinesis) and cloud-based ETL workflows.
  • Experience working with BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI) for operational reporting.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, pipeline orchestration, and performance optimization.
  • Advanced English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working with customer segmentation and CRM data (e.g., Segment, Customer.io, Braze).
  • Knowledge of low-code frontend tools for internal data applications (e.g., Retool).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices for data engineering workflows.
  • Experience in high-scale operational environments, supporting finance, marketing, or operations teams.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Ownership & Impact – Your work will directly enable teams to automate workflows and make data-driven decisions.
