Job Overview
We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join our Internal Tools team at Coursera. This team builds high-leverage internal products that support our employees across functions such as content operations, learner support, finance, and legal. As a full stack engineer, you’ll lead end-to-end development of scalable tools—shaping architecture, owning technical decisions, and mentoring junior engineers. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally to ensure our tools are intuitive, performant, and aligned with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, scale, and maintain full stack internal web applications that streamline Coursera’s operations.
- Own features end-to-end, from technical design to implementation on both frontend and backend.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and end-users to gather feedback and deliver thoughtful solutions.
- Write high-quality, well-tested code across the stack—leveraging modern frameworks and best practices.
- Drive architectural discussions and make key design decisions for internal tooling infrastructure.
- Lead code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Participate in sprint planning, technical grooming, and retrospective discussions.
- Ensure reliability, scalability, and security of internal systems through proactive monitoring and automation.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Skills & Experience:
- 4–7 years of experience in software development, with a strong background in both frontend and backend engineering.
- Proficiency in backend languages like Java, Golang, or Python, and experience designing RESTful APIs.
- Strong frontend development experience using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React (preferred), Angular, or Vue.js.
- Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and responsive design principles.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, version control (Git), and CI/CD workflows.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, and container technologies like Docker or Kubernetes is a plus.
- Track record of working cross-functionally and delivering solutions that balance business and technical needs.
- Ability to mentor others, lead projects, and contribute to technical planning and roadmap discussions.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative mindset.
