Job Description

CSCI Consulting is looking for a highly skilled Staff Accountant to support financial reporting and accounting operations for federal agency clients. This position requires technical expertise in federal accounting systems, strong analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate and improve financial reporting processes and controls.

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in ensuring compliance with accounting standards while supporting core tasks such as financial reporting and Agency Financial Report (AFR) compilation and accounting treatment and data standardization. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the compilation of the AFR and other financial reporting deliverables
  • Support accounting treatment assessments, financial data standardization, and documentation efforts
  • Provide technical expertise in evaluating and improving agency accounting systems, policies, and operations
  • Conduct requirements analysis and assist in system design related to accounting functionality and enhancements
  • Analyze and evaluate federal accounting systems, including implementation plans, compliance procedures, and reporting effectiveness
  • Resolve complex accounting issues by serving as a technical advisor to internal teams and agency clients
  • Evaluate system proposals for conformance with federal accounting standards, financial reporting requirements, and best practices
  • Recommend and help implement processing improvements and system modifications to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Prepare clear documentation, reports, and recommendations to support internal decision-making and client transparency

Minimum Requirements

  • 8 to 10 years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experience and a bachelor’s degree, or 15 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree
  • Strong understanding of federal accounting practices, financial management regulations, and reporting standards
  • Experience working with or evaluating federal accounting systems and financial applications
  • Proven ability to analyze accounting system functionality, develop requirements, and support technical design
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to provide guidance on complex accounting treatments and ensure compliance with federal reporting requirements
  • Creativity and adaptability in problem-solving
  • Ability to work with clients to understand their needs
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional presence

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with systems such as Oracle Federal Financials, Momentum, or SAP in a federal context
  • Working knowledge of OMB, FASAB, GAO, and Treasury guidance
  • Experience with audit support, internal controls, or agency financial improvement initiatives
  • CPA, CGFM, CDFM, or other professional accounting certification preferred
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently
  • Strong customer and vendor relationship skills
  • Demonstrated ability to comply with data standards and policies
  • Motivation to learn new technologies and methodologies that demonstrate value
  • Past experience working with a federal agency / state or local government agency
  • Department of Defense experience is a plus!
