System Architect (MDDI/MBSE)
Job Description
CSCI Consulting is looking for a System Architect to support our Federal client. In this role, the System Architect - MDDI/MBSE will support the Joint Transportation Management System (JTMS) modernization initiative by providing systems architecture, model-based systems engineering, and digital integration expertise for a large-scale Department of War (DoW) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) transformation.
This role will help define, model, integrate, and govern the technical and functional architecture required to consolidate legacy transportation and financial systems into a unified enterprise platform that supports Joint Deployment and Distribution Enterprise (JDDE) mission needs. The System Architect will be responsible for translating mission, business, operational, and technical requirements into integrated architecture models, supporting system design decisions, and ensuring traceability across requirements, interfaces, data flows, business processes, and solution components.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a System Architect supporting the JTMS modernization effort, with emphasis on MDDI, MBSE, enterprise architecture, and digital engineering practices
- Develop, maintain, and govern architecture models that represent JTMS business processes, system components, interfaces, data flows, integrations, and operational capabilities
- Apply model-based systems engineering practices to improve requirements traceability, architecture consistency, integration planning, and design decision support
- Support the definition and refinement of As-Is and To-Be architectures for transportation, logistics, financial management, and supporting enterprise capabilities
- Collaborate with functional, technical, cybersecurity, data, integration, and program stakeholders to ensure architecture artifacts accurately reflect mission and system requirements
- Support architecture alignment across SAP S/4HANA, Transportation Management, Financial Management, Product Compliance, Global Trade Services, analytics/reporting, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, and integration layers, as applicable to the JTMS solution environment
- Develop and maintain architecture views, models, diagrams, interface definitions, and system design documentation to support program governance and technical decision-making
- Ensure architecture products support requirements decomposition, design traceability, test planning, deployment planning, and lifecycle sustainment
- Identify architecture gaps, dependencies, integration risks, and design constraints; recommend mitigation strategies to improve system performance, scalability, interoperability, and mission alignment
- Support technical reviews, architecture review boards, design sessions, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and stakeholder working groups
- Coordinate with business process reengineering teams to ensure modeled capabilities align with standardized, optimized JTMS business processes
- Support data architecture and interface planning for integrations between legacy systems, ERP components, external systems, reporting platforms, and operational mission systems
- Assist in developing architecture artifacts that support accreditation, cybersecurity alignment, auditability, operational readiness, and sustainment planning
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to analysts, engineers, developers, and functional SMEs to ensure consistent architecture implementation across the program
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Systems, or a related technical discipline
- 8–12+ years of experience supporting systems architecture, enterprise architecture, systems engineering, or large-scale system modernization efforts
- Demonstrated experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles, methods, and architecture modeling
- Experience developing or maintaining system architecture artifacts, including capability views, operational views, system views, interface diagrams, data flows, and traceability matrices
- Experience supporting complex DoW, federal, ERP, logistics, transportation, or financial management system environments
- Familiarity with architecture modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler / Cameo Enterprise Architecture, MagicDraw, Sparx EA, or similar modeling platforms
- Strong understanding of systems integration, requirements management, interface control, configuration management, and lifecycle engineering
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including functional SMEs, developers, cybersecurity teams, data teams, integration teams, and program leadership
- Ability to translate mission and business needs into actionable technical architecture products
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to brief technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Creativity and adaptability in problem-solving

Preferred Skills
- Prior experience supporting JDDE, DoW logistics, transportation management, or deployment/distribution systems
- Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA, SAP Transportation Management, ERP modernization, or large-scale business transformation programs
- Experience with DoDAF, UAF, SysML, BPMN, UML, or other architecture/modeling frameworks
- Experience supporting digital engineering strategy, model governance, architecture repositories, or digital thread implementation
- Experience with requirements tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow SPM, DOORS, Jama, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with Agile, SAFe, or hybrid Agile delivery environments
- Experience supporting cloud-based, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, data integration, or analytics-enabled enterprise systems
- Experience creating architecture products for technical reviews, design reviews, test readiness reviews, governance boards, and acquisition/program documentation
- Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently
- Strong customer and vendor relationship skills
- Demonstrated ability to comply with data standards and policies
- Motivation to learn new technologies and methodologies that demonstrate value
- Past experience working with a Federal agency
- Department of War, etc. experience is a plus!
