Assistant Engineer (As-Needed - Hybrid)
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

JOB SUMMARY
Assistant Engineer is an entry-level position in the engineering department, responsible for professional engineering work related to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of various public works projects. Under direction and supervision of supervisory or management personnel, an Assistant Engineer is responsible for office and field assignments of average complexity tasks in design and construction projects.
- Perform engineering calculations, and prepare plans, specifications and estimates for construction of public works projects.
 - Compile and review engineering data for preparation of reports and studies.
 - Perform field measurements and inspections, and record and organize field data.
 - Under direction and supervision, perform engineering work for public works projects, ensuring technical competence and compliance with governing regulations.
 - Develop and/or maintain database, spreadsheets and reports to monitor performance of engineering design projects.
 - Coordinate project activities with project teams, field personnel, utility companies, other consultants, and contractors.
 - Roadway Design Only - Maintain knowledge of the latest Caltrans and/or AASHTO design and construction standards and specifications. OR
 - Utility Design Only - Maintain knowledge of the latest NASSCO and/or AWWA design and construction specifications. OR
 - Structural Design Only – Maintain knowledge of the latest Caltrans Bridge design and construction standards, and California Building Code.
 - Assist with project scheduling and budgeting tasks.
 - Perform other related duties as required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
- 0+ years of progressive engineering experience.
 - Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
 - Current California EIT License is highly desired.
 - Roadway Design Only – Knowledge of principles and practices of engineering applied to roadway design projects – e.g. pavement rehabilitation, complete streets, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, intersection, drainage, and stormwater quality measures.
 - Utility Design Only - Knowledge of principles and practices of engineering applied to utility pipeline design projects – e.g. water distribution and transmission systems, wastewater collection system, and stormwater drainage system.
 - Structural Design Only – Knowledge of principles and practices of engineering applied to structural design projects – e.g. bridges, retaining wall, box culverts, water tanks, overhead signs and other non-building structures.
 - Ability to perform engineering computations and review existing engineering plans and studies.
 - Knowledge of AutoCAD, modeling and/or any other design-aid software applications.
 - Good verbal and written communication skills.

- General office environment.
 - Work productively independently or in a team environment.
 - Occasional overtime work is required throughout the year.
 - Require sitting/standing position at workstation for extended periods
 - Require walking, bending, and sitting.
 - May require lifting up to 10 pounds.
 - Work with detailed, finely printed documents.
 - May require visiting work sites and/or clients.
 - Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and multiple projects.
 
Salary Range
$37 - $45 USD
