Lead Maintenance Technician
Job Type: Full-Time; Non-Exempt
Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Starting Pay Rate: $23.50
Location: Mt. Dora, FL
Position Summary
The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring the safety, functionality, and upkeep of the facility and company assets. This role requires strong knowledge of mechanical systems, greenhouse operations, and building maintenance. The Lead Maintenance Technician helps minimize operational downtime by performing and coordinating maintenance activities, supporting farm operations, and maintaining compliance with state marijuana regulations. This role plays a key leadership function in guiding maintenance team members, overseeing repairs, monitoring equipment, and ensuring all tasks are executed according to company policies, SOPs, and regulatory standards.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct routine inspections of facility buildings to identify and resolve issues.
- Schedule and assign maintenance and repair tasks to maintenance staff.
- Ensure maintenance teams have the necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Coordinate with external vendors for inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs.
- Implement and maintain Maintenance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), reviewing annually.
- Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with evaluating cost estimates and presenting options.
- Provide weekly progress and employee tracking reports.
- Maintain inventory of equipment, filters, and general supplies; reorder as needed.
- Support other departments with facility-related maintenance needs.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and operational functionality of facility grounds and buildings.
- Communicate ongoing maintenance activities to affected staff.
- Ensure bottled drinking water is stocked in all required areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in a related industry or work environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Experience in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Professional and respectful communication skills.
- Proven mechanical and building maintenance capability.
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in agricultural, greenhouse, or cannabis facility environments.
- Familiarity with marijuana compliance regulations.
- Advanced mechanical, electrical, or HVAC certifications.
- Experience leading or training maintenance personnel.
- Experience with CMMS or digital maintenance tracking tools.
Even Better If:
- You have proficiency in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
- You bring experience reading prints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- You are skilled in using industrial hand tools and power tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally climb ladders and crawl in low-clearance spaces.
- Ability to work on a computer and look at screens for extended periods.
- Ability to maintain close vision (read small print at 20 inches or less).
- This position has allergen exposure potential, including dust, pollen, and plant pathogens.
Work Environment
Depending on the facility, this role may involve:
- Exposure to dust, pollen, and plant pathogens
- Exposure to cleaning solvents such as isopropyl alcohol
- Daily use of PPE (masks, hair nets, beard covers, respirators, scrubs, etc.)
- Working in confined spaces
- Exposure to loud noises such as compressors, alarms, and equipment
- Exposure to CO₂ processes within OSHA limits
- Working in a fast-paced, ever‑changing environment
