Retail District Manager
Location: Massachusetts
Travel Requirement:
Candidates must have reliable transportation and be comfortable traveling up to 80% of the time throughout Massachusetts and the surrounding assigned market area. This role supports multiple retail locations and requires regular in-market presence to coach teams, drive business performance, and support new store growth and openings.

Who You Are:

You are a passionate and results-driven retail leader with a proven track record of developing high-performing teams, driving operational excellence, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and are skilled at leading through growth and change.

As a District Manager, you will serve as a trusted coach, business partner, and leader for Store Managers across Massachusetts, overseeing an initial portfolio of four retail locations with plans to expand more stores in the near future. You will leverage your multi-unit leadership experience to inspire teams, drive sales performance, and build a culture of accountability, engagement, and development.

In this role, you will be responsible for executing retail business strategies, identifying opportunities for growth, and ensuring operational consistency across the district. You will play a key role in scaling the retail organization by supporting new store openings, developing future leaders, and positioning the business for long-term success in a rapidly growing market.

What You’ll Do:

The daily responsibilities for this role will include P&L monitoring, recording, directing revenue and spending. This will require you to be a forward thinker by identifying opportunities for improvement in the store region; designs and implements training, policies, goals, and other resources to maximize productivity and morale. You must maintain knowledge of market, competition, and best practices and trends in sales techniques and strategies. While in the field daily you will be representing Curaleaf as a brand ambassador.

 

  • Drive consistent execution of company standards, operating procedures, and performance expectations across all locations to deliver a best-in-class customer experience.
  • Achieve district revenue targets by developing and executing sales strategies, leveraging business insights, and coaching leaders to drive performance.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators, including revenue, customer satisfaction, transaction metrics, sales conversion, operational compliance, and employee engagement.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, engagement, and teamwork while creating action plans that improve employee satisfaction, retention, and overall store performance.
  • Lead district teams through organizational changes, acquisitions, operational transitions, and new store openings while maintaining business continuity and team engagement.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor Store Managers and emerging leaders through performance management, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.
  • Partner with Store Managers to identify opportunities within the customer journey and implement strategies that enhance guest satisfaction, loyalty, and repeat business.
  • Own district P&L performance by monitoring revenue, expenses, labor, and controllable costs to drive sustainable business results.
  • Coach store teams to maintain operational excellence in inventory management, compliance, store presentation, asset protection, and execution of company initiatives.
  • Analyze customer feedback, business trends, and store performance metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support market growth initiatives, including new store openings, acquisitions, and integration efforts throughout Massachusetts.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, competitors, and best practices to identify opportunities that strengthen business performance.
  • Attend and participate in leadership, sales, and management training meetings as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, state regulations, and industry requirements.
  • Maintain flexibility to support business needs, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel up to 80% throughout the assigned district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 5+ years of progressive retail leadership experience, including at least 3+ years leading multiple locations, markets, or districts.
  • Proven success driving sales growth, improving profitability, and achieving business objectives across a multi-unit retail environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and retain high-performing teams while creating a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Track record of developing Store Managers and future leaders through coaching, succession planning, performance management, and talent development.
  • Experience leading teams through periods of growth, organizational change, acquisitions, new store openings, or business transformation.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze KPIs, identify opportunities, and execute strategies that improve revenue, operational performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Proven ability to drive operational consistency and execution across multiple locations while maintaining high standards and delivering results.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and influencing skills, with the ability to gain trust and foster collaboration at all levels of the organization.
  • Passion for delivering an outstanding customer experience, with a strong understanding of customer engagement, store operations, and the customer journey.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively provide feedback, navigate difficult conversations, and lead through change.
  • High level of professional maturity, emotional intelligence, and sound decision-making skills.
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, including sales, labor management, inventory control, compliance, and financial performance.
  • Experience in specialty retail, convenience retail, big-box retail, grocery, hospitality, or other high-volume customer-focused environments.

Even Better If:

  • Experience managing unionized workforces.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, store integrations, or large-scale organizational transitions.
  • Cannabis industry experience.

 

 

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, use hands and finger to feel, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, and lift up to 50 pounds.  This position requires close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).   

Work Environment: 

This job operates in a professional retail environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, POS systems, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This position has allergen warnings including potential exposure to dust, pollen, and plant pathogens and requires the ability to work in confined spaces, have a high stress tolerance, adaptability, and be flexible to work in an ever-changing environment.
